You've been dating this man for a year - when did you move in together, and why did you do so? Usually when a couple decides to live together - they rent (or buy) a place of their own.

Before you moved in together - did your SO spend his time playing video games? If you were living in two different places, it seems likely that playing video games after work and relaxing are how he normally spends his time. On the other hand - your after work routine has most likely always consisted of helping your child, cooking, and taking care of housework. Now that you are living together, it seems you expected (or at the very least hoped) that your SO would change his routine to help ease your work load on the home front.

If this is really only about him being down-stairs with you as you take care of things, then he could relax downstairs and putter around on the computer (if he has a laptop). On the other hand, if this more about him helping out more (the first step of which is simply to get him to come down the stairs) - then that's an entirely different conversation.

Did you talk about expected roles once you started living together? From your description, it sounds like he expected the scenery to change - not his routine. It seems there may have been a few things that were either never fully discussed, or overlooked.

That's just my first impression after reading your post.

It may help if you explain exactly what you would ideally like him to do.
