Projecting can be a form of abuse, put someone on the defensive to keep them weak/doubting, as a way to gain power and get away with shady shit. (called: whataboutism and ad hominem)

( cause them to think they are on thin ice, so they don't challenge him )
( cause them to think they are low value, others wont want them, they are dirty cheater )
( cause them to think they are unworthy )
( cause them work harder to "make it up to him" (serve him) )
( "I knew it all along" when you do something wrong )
( "you are likely a cheater, so you are also likely a { insert accusation here }"

It's also a sign of insecurity, and would cause doubt of his RPB status.

How much does he value himself if he thinks you would possibly cheat? Shit, I'm so awesome that my mate wouldn't even consider cheating, and if she did, she'd lose out on the best thing that ever happened to her (hyperbole to make a point)

"I'm a 10, so if she didn't appreciate it, she doesn't deserve it, I'll easily find another. My loyalty to her was the only reason I didn't fuck around, now I can"

contrasted with:

"You are so lucky to have me, even though you are terrible. You're lucky I don't leave. Good luck finding another man like me."

Sometimes we see in others what we fear in ourselves (subconsciously). He might be feeling insecure, and to counter that, he wants you to reassure him that he's awesome and you'd NEVER violate him like he fears.

Do you have a history of cheating or even behaving in a way that could make a man think you cheat (eg being flirtatious with men you shouldn’t be)? Does he have any reason not to trust you? If the answer to this is an honest “no” I would take his behaviour as a red flag. Perhaps he’s been damaged by cheating women in the past. I’ve noticed that cheating types tend to be jealous and assume everyone else behaves as poorly as they do. If you have done nothing to provoke this behaviour in him I would consider it to be a red flag. It’s absolutely exhausting to try and convince someone you are innocent when they are hell bent on believing otherwise. That’s no way to live your life.
