It is remarkable how hard many women find it to keep their mouths shut whenever someone is doing something in front of them. It doesn't matter what it is, the mere fact that a man is doing something is usually enough to inspire their mouths to shift into gear, regardless of whether they know anything about what he is doing or not.

People dismiss, or worse, justify, women's mindless blathering as a sign that women are just more verbal than men. But I've known plenty of verbal people, and to me they seem to fall into two categories: content-oriented, and content-free. The former actually seem to have something definite in their minds, about which they are talking; the latter seem to be doing nothing more than color-commentary on any and every thought that runs through their heads, no matter how trivial.

A famous quotation attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt along these lines is "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people." In my experience this has been true almost without exception, but painfully true among my colleagues in the teachers' lounge. Enough said about that.

Rational argument in these situations serves no purpose whatsoever. I've seen women justify their criticism of men who point out they are doing exactly what the woman herself was doing in the same situation. Unless you're in the mood for hamster-wrestling, neutral resistance to her instinctive control freak tendencies.

And this too, is painfully true. More than once I have caught a woman directly contradicting herself, and the inevitable hamster-poop that flies out onto the table is a plaintive "That's differennnt". You've heard it before. 24yo male coach sleeps with a 17yo female field hockey player? Lock him up, cut off his balls, pedophile! Reverse the sexes? "That's differennnt". How is it different? "It just isss".

There is no shortage of videos and other media exemplifying the soul-numbing resistance to logical argumentation displayed by presumably college-educated people, but at the risk of earning the label of misogynist, I have observed no irrationality so pure and refined, and so effortlessly spewn, as what I have heard come out of a woman's mouth.

When I was young, dumb, and full of compassion for manifest ignoramuses, I naively condescended to engage the hamsters, to no avail. Ever. I have never, not once, had a measurable shred of influence through arguing with a woman. To my knowledge, no woman has ever followed my advice, solicited or unsolicited, but has gone on to do what she was minded to do in the first place - which implies she was only fishing for justifications of what she was planning to do all along, or just wanted company to alleviate the stress of indecisiveness.

So now, after having taken the pill, I no longer waste my time and precious cortisol arguing with women. I'm getting better at cutting them off when an Eve invites me to take a bite of her contentious Apple, whether the issue is "Rape Culture", race relations, social justice, or something as deceptively innocent as the latest gossip about who was seen with whom at the mall from her church Bible study, or complaining about how her bf is such a loser for the umpteenth time.

My best line so far, if the issue is some problem or challenge she is facing, is "If you're not going to solve the problem, then I don't want to hear about it." The first time I used that line, it worked like a charm. I have never seen a woman shut up about something so quickly. And it was still working a couple of months later, when this woman in question momentarily forgot herself and began to complain again about her loser boyfriend; I steamrollered over her draying and got the first words out, If you're not--, and she shut herself down instantly, with a nod of acknowledgment.
