It is the truth. Looks are everything to your success with attractive women (or plain faced women with decent bodies) as a young adult male in your prime years (18-40). Guys simply ignore this brutal fact but its the truth. And remember women only need to be not fat to be considered attractive or good enough to be with, men need at lot more than that to be considered attractive. Tinder and dating sites have let the cat out of the bag on womens sexual mating tactics (that they only go for above average looking guys). True many men reach "alpha" status later in life through their hard work and career. Look at Bernie Ecclestone - he's a billionaire and with a supermodel half his age, but he is a sub 3 on the looks scale, an ugly man standing 5ft1 and facially unappealing to women. Success came late for him, around 40 years old and later. In his teens and twenties he was shat on by women. Read his biography. Can most men handle being shat on during their primes, regardless if they're in stable jobs and are decent people? I'd say most guys give up and either (a) consume alcohol and die an early death (b) settle for an unappealing chick (fat) or (c) use escorts and live a lonely life. It's extremely hard to be an unattractive man.

You focus on any one factor in determining the true market value for something and you are likely going to make a mistake. In the SM, looks are a big factor but by no means the only one, and perhaps not even the largest one. (An ugly celebrity will unquestionably get more opportunities than a good looking nobody.)

Almost every question Ive ever seen on this board (or any other for that matter) can almost always be answered by looking to the market. It tells you everything you need to know if you just ask it the right questions.

I agree. I'd also say though that looks influence how you handle situations and whether you become an alpha or a beta. I grew up with some of the best looking guys in school as my friends. Over time they became alphas because things were given to them, they were treated differently, and they had their choice of women; rejecting or dumping hotties right and left that I would have died to be with. If you're unattractive you learn to settle for less.

By definition the Alpha has options with many women.
A man is defined as Alpha but lacking options.

This post have gained a lot of answers, I venture saying, that /u/czatatra has given the most concise answer.

However, one have to realize, over time, the Alpha who has to face danger first is not always[sic] any more the guy who actually faces danger first. He would rather often [sic] send a beta slave to delegate his expected share of work.

So I would say, Alpha is the guy whom people expect to do the noble sacrifice,in exchange of the first choice of meat and mate.

You don't understand Alpha.

Alpha is status -- including but not limited to looks. It is situational. The same exact guy will be a magnetic alpha in one room and a zero in another because the women in the second room don't know who he is or have a different status ladder.

An ugly guy CANNOT be "alpha" unless he has other status to compensate. Being loud or confident does not confer status -- being loud and confident and having other men visibly focus their attention on you, defer to you, obey you -- THAT confers status.

But plenty of ugly guys are alphas and have the female attention that goes with that, and that you haven't ever seen one implies that you travel in some very low-powered circles.

Well, it is September and with the influx of new people come also the same old questions and doubts about the alpha/beta dichotomy. If you really want to understand what alpha and beta means, do yourself a favor and watch this Simon Sinek's talk (which should be in the sidebar IMHO). It is 45 min long, but well-worthy your time investment.

In short, the alpha is the best adapted male of the group in a particular environment. Because of that, he is given first choice of meat and first choice of mate. In exchange, he is expected to face danger first and sacrifice himself for the herd.

The three sentences above should give you a lot to meditate on. It is always assumed here that being alpha is the ideal that all men should strive for, often hurting himself and others in the process. But is it really good for you nowadays?

I believe that being 100% alpha is impossible in modern times, simply because we live our lives in too many different environments. Steve Jobs may have been the alpha at Apple, thus possibly having his way with any of his gorgeous female employees. At the same time, his wife could have been pumped and dumped by Chad at the gym, because in that particular environment Chad was the alpha.

I don't have all the answers, so please by all means lift, make money and build an awesome life for yourself. But when the time comes and you are offered first choice of meat and first choice of mate, know that this comes from biology, not love or respect or loyalty. Know that it is environment-dependent and will be taken from you if things change. And, most importantly, be aware of the sacrificial role that is expected from you from that moment on.

lol no. obviously being hot will make it easier and being ugly will make it harder. if you are a tall, shredded underwear model you don't need a lot of game to get laid (but you still will need some to not fuck it up). if you are a hideously ugly deformed little troll of a man, you will need almost superhuman levels of game to get laid (but it is possible). but that's only for the guys at the extremes.

most of you guys are probably just a little short or kinda goofy looking or whatever. not hideous. you're attractive enough to regularly fuck hot girls if you would just stop making excuses and start working on your game. no, you'll probably never have enough game to overcome your looks and start fucking Victoria's Secret models. but guess what? a top 1% tall shredded male model with shitty game won't be fucking VS models either.

I think that this posted needed a lot more information for it to be taken seriously. Frankly, I don't agree and I don't think you are correct in the slightest. However I clicked this post because I was open to you changing my mind but you don't seem to have the whole concept you are trying to explain completely yourself, nor did you explain it all that well.

You know a lot of guys who have behaviours that would be described as beta, examples, how do you expect to convince anyone without at least providing examples?

A guy who is ugly but very alpha still getting nothing. Where have you seen this? In what situation. I have seen guys who were ugly who had women treat them like they were Brad pitt.

Neil Strauss for example while not very ugly, he isn't Brad pitt but let's take his height first up, he is 5'7, that's not very tall now is it? I wouldn't call him that good looking, definitely not ugly, but not good looking, he isn't very masculine. He doesn't meet three of the categories you presented. Yet he doesn't struggle which shows a flaw somewhere in your thinking. Looks are important but more so to men than women, if you look through your data bank of memories I'm sure you've seen a woman with a guy you asked yourself why is she with him because there is more to play than simply looks, at least for women.

Not going to say you are completely wrong because what the fuck do I know, but come more prepared if you want to change people to your way of thinking because they already have examples that support the theory they currently believe, so at the very least you should have examples expressing why they should believer similar to you.

Try to be very alpha then test your statement! From what I've noticed, being focused and dominant is an enormously powerful strategy that catapults you into alpha status and treatment no different from chads. The difference between a good player and a natural, however, is that the natural (the Chad) wakes up to same reality the next day, while the player will have to cope with their realization that they fucked the "wrong" man OR at the very best (this is RARE) an expectation for another day of impeccable game (so another day to the gauntlets).

From what I've noticed, the next day is always a BRUTAL return to your genetic default. I've had gorgeous women react with adoration and submission, only to see them the next moment we were separated into a state of complete inversion (loathful, hostile).

All of this killed my motivation to play the game and made me concentrate only on the very few that give me IOIs in NEUTRAL situations.
