So I was at my local watering hole tonight, and got into a conversation with the bar tender. This is one of those bars which specializes in having the largest number of exotic beers. Many on tap to choose from, which change almost every week. Its a good place.
Well, they make the bartenders take a beer class. The point is that they need to know beers through and through. How its made, how to describe flavors, where it is from, blah blah blah.
Well, in the last class for this company, six women were taking part (out of twelve).
All but 1 dropped out.
Now, I knew women weren't going to be great at stem or the top in talent at any given profession. But the fact that average women couldn't handle the beer knowledge class just blows my mind. It even surprised me.
EDIT:
I think some people are not underestimating the potential for such a class to be difficult. If you sit down and think about it, there are thousands of pieces of information to know. How many brands of beer do you think there are? Each brand often makes multiple types of beer? Each beer needs to be served in a specific glass. That is a lot of things to memorize, and you haven't even started on ingredients, fermentation, yeasts, etc. This thing is probably a reasonably difficult course, especially for people who weren't college material to begin with.
