By historical here, I’m not talking about Marie Antoinette (although, AWALT right). Rather, the history of the concept within TRP. I wrote the below for a different non-reddit message board (not a TRP one), and their main concern with TRP was that we were just a bunch of players who used and manipulated women, i.e. TRP=PUA. The normal sort of “you all hate women” reaction TRP often gets. The best way I found to help them understand TRP, and introduce concepts like AWALT, was to give them some historical perspective.

There is a popular notion that we red pillers just sat around one day on our arses (drinking beer in our underpants between video game stints) and came up with these concepts, when in reality they evolved out of years of experience and experimentation with real-world women. Things like the Book of Pook (one of the earliest tenets on game theory, imho) for instance. We continue to do so, which is why field reports here are so valuable. They are not just stories – they are data.

There is a historical context to TRP. Without that context, I can see why some have such a visceral reaction to it. Why concepts like AWALT seem to raise such ire (there was just a thread on the /r/PurplePillDebate about this last week). Anyway, be interested in other’s thoughts on this.

 

 

AWALT is often misconstrued. At its core, it refers to patterns of instinctive human female behavior. Does it mean that all women are exactly the same, behave exactly the same, have exactly the same wants/desires? No, that's preposterous. But isn't it equally preposterous to assume that a few thousand years of cultural history would completely erase millions of years of evolution? Our genes and brains are still essentially the same as cavemen. If you took a archaic human (aka caveman) from 100,000 years ago, you'd be able to breed with them.

The important point is that AWALT is a spectrum.

Underneath, there is the same general programming in all women. The same instinctual responses to certain stimuli. But the manifestation of those behaviors will vary somewhat from girl to girl. The thresholds for those instincts will also vary. Women are still people. Accepting AWALT doesn't mean we deny there is any variation - it means accepting that there is a roughly constant "background pattern" upon which those behaviors play out. And understanding that background pattern is key.

Men also have these instinctive behaviors (AMALT), but they are fundamentally different. Many of the patterns, and the differences between the sexes, are tied to reproductive strategy, like it or not. Sexual reproduction is why we have the sexes in the first place.

PUAs stumbled upon many of these patterns back in the 80's and 90's, essentially by experimenting in brazen ways on lots and lots of women, forming hypotheses and testing them in the field. Discussing them on early internet sites like SoSuave. They of course used those patterns to try to game women. But others came along later (TRP) and realized these patterns had deeper philosophical meaning - that they underscored a lot of broader societal structure all around us, relationship patterns, gender dynamics, etc., in such a way that we often don't even realize it.

Hollywood and popular culture would have you believe that we are all unique, give you disney-esque fantasy land ideas about life and love. But movies also tell you that it's common to get into hi speed car chases, crash, then walk away with a few cuts and bruises to save the day.

We don't see it at the time, but later realize, as many on here mention "it's like they were running off some script" ... of course, women are people too, they are not all exactly the same. But there are patterns. The thing is, like it or not, there are patterns in all of us.

 

TL;DR ... it's helpful when explaining TRP to outsiders to put the concepts in their historical context. Many of these ideas evolved over time out of real-world experiences. It's the lack of context that often causes the visceral reaction that TRP gets.
