Summary: Many men have a hard time understanding or even flat-out reject RP principles like AWALT because expect things to be deterministic instead of probabilistic, much like classical and quantum physics.

Body: A common and very important theme here is the principle of AWALT-All Women Are Like That. In particular, this applies mostly to things like branch-swinging and seeking alpha fucks and beta bucks.

Where it becomes troublesome though is when men see women who seem NOT to follow this rule. The grandparents together for 80 years, the wife who stood by her husband's side even as he went completely broke, etc.

The point here is to remember that things like branch-swinging are not guarantees, they are probabilities. Every woman is still an individual and has her own goals and motivations, thus every woman has a different probability to do something that would fall under AWALT.

A very good analogy of this comes from quantum mechanics, the phenomenon of tunneling. In a classical system, you either have enough energy to get over a hill or you don't. In a quantum system, if you don't have enough energy to get over the hill you still have a certain probability of just appearing on the other side. This probability is based on the width and height of the hill and the energy of the particle; the higher and wider the hill, the lower the probability.

If you think of a standard, monogamous, faithful relationship as being the classical case, this analogy works perfectly. In the classical picture, she commits and it's done, as long as you don't become too much of a wanker she'll stay with you. In the quantum/RP case though, this is no longer true. Now she has a probability of AWALT no matter what. Just as the tunneling probability is based on energies and widths, this is based on SMV. If your SMV is really high, that's like having a really high hill. If there isn't much opportunity, that's like having a really wide hill. The energy is the woman's own propensity for promiscuity, e.g. sluts gonna slut.

Whether or not a woman follows AWALT is NOT deterministic like you would expect, but rather probabilistic and thus you cannot assume you've got a unicorn just because she had an opportunity and didn't take it. This is what makes the principle of AWALT so hard to accept in the first place, we see too many cases where it seems to not apply.
