Maybe they will later be able to provide a "gutted in the trench by shrapnel" simulators for women who dream of joining the army - a privilege so far mostly being offered to men.

My take on this is the same as whenever I hear women talking about the pain of childbirth and how men couldn't handle it. It's a shit test and the conversation is in need of a huge frame shift.

Let me use the following analogy to illustrate my point:

A woman complaining about the pain and childbirth to a man is like a runner complaining to a paraplegic person about running marathons. Certainly, marathons are long and grueling and they require tedious preparation and the pain and suffering is extreme. No one would ever deny that. But it's solely something runners choose to do because they feel it will be worth it. They're complaining about the downside of a choice that the paraplegic can never in their life time make no matter how much they want to**. It is in the end, for a woman to complain about the pain women suffer during childbirth to a man, selfish, disingenuous and insulting.

The purpose of this ~~parade~~ public torture is, ostensibly, to ~~"draw attention to violence against women"~~ make men more empathetic to women/appreciative of their superior pain-tolerance, or some such rhetorical phrase. But the actual purpose is what you might expect: to affront, degrade and humiliate the male population in a ritual, symbolic manner. Male participants -- some voluntary, some not -- will put on ridiculous spike-heeled footwear (you know, the kind which the patriarchy forces women to wear!) and then literally walk a mile, en masse, in view of the general public. The whole spectacle is designed as a participatory public psychodrama, meant to enact the neurotic tribal narrative of a certain social cohort, and to draw more and more people into that very same script.

And the subtext is, of course, to empower women by making men more manipulable through real or imagined guilt. Well, mostly imagined, but that's fine so long as a self-flagellatory, "male culpa" ethos instills itself into the collective male psyche. That's what feminism is for, after all.
