One of my personal goals in life I gained as a young lad growing up in the 80/90s was to not be a "poser". After reading this sub from time to time, I can't help at look at some of these "alpha" traits and begin to wonder how many alpha posers may be out there or are fostering. I love what this sub represents and do believe it's needed in our de-masculating culture but I still wonder how many men are just imitating and just come off as dickheads and fuckos.

Throughout my life I've met many dudes who seem to act the part but when confronted back down in the traditional "bully" stereotype. My personal exposure to what I would consider alpha males are individuals who are more an "obi-wan" architype then say a Dwayne Johnson. Nothing against The Rock but I feel most men try to emulate this with no substance. This Paul Vunak video comes to mind. I've met many men that have this philosophy that try to stay calm, cool, collected, but are extremely confident and could fuck you up in a multitude of ways.

Teaching in higher education witnessing many young men come through it's clear the ones that are legit alpha males vs the posers. These individuals are confident, trustworthy, work hard, physically and mentally tough, usually come from stable families, patriotic, religious, but don't see the need to posture themselves as being the alpha. They know it (or at least have humility to not accept it) and the rest of us can see it.

The posers seem to be one's demonstrating the more physical alpha behavior. Now I actually like these guys and happy to see the young bucks acting up but they are not the one's I hope my sons grow up to emulate. I recently had to put one such student in his place after he jokingly pushed me (alpha behavior of freely touching others in a group) and told him "to never fucking touch me". Now I was actually very friendly with this student prior but he had to but his place and there after I was treated much differently and he became much quieter in class.

I personally never wanted to act like a typical alpha more for this very reason as I found that kids that acted this way were more just afraid and putting on a front. I in fact welcomed any confrontation from such individuals. Sometimes these guys are legit, but when I see eccentric stereotypical "alpha" behavior I imminently think these men are not. I also would add from my experience that such behavior is not more conducive in attracting the opposite sex.

I also see this in gym culture. I've been working out since I was 14 not missing more than 2 days for over 15 years. And while I love strength training, many of the men I've respected/and feared the most in my life are not gym rats nor would they ever be caught dead tanning, wearing tight shirts, or walking around like a momo with a water jug filled with a kool-aid "supplement". However I'd rather see young men lifting than at a social justice event.

One such true alpha in my book that recently passed was the late John Glenn. If you've never read into this guys personality, accolades, and ways of life I encourage you do.
