While this guy's argument is sound, I don't think it applies to the male/female work/pay dynamic (at least how it is now, dunno about when this speech was made).

Nowadays, women get paid less because they go to lower paying safer jobs, don't work as much (I think 32 vs 36 hours weekly), rarely go for overtime, have less average experience due to maternity leave, and don't negotiate for promotions/raises as well. Hour-for-hour at the same job, accounting for negotiation, there isn't really a gap.

Otherwise hiring women would be like hiring illegal immegrants. A man's labor at a woman's wage? Who wouldn't jump on that!

Simple, if it were true, the market would've taken advantage of it. I'd fire all the guys and hire only girls to save money. There would be literally 0 women unemployed.

Any legislation supporting equal pay for equal work does in fact harm the very groups the legislation aims to protect. It is believed that free market forces discriminative employers to pay for their prejudice whereas an equal pay for equal work legislation would simply allow those same employers to have no consequence for their prejudice. An employer who holds an unfair prejudice against women will always hire the man, given the requirement to pay both equally. However, if the woman offers to be compensated slightly less than the man despite having equal talents, the employer will have to pay for the prejudice by still hiring the man. In this case, a competitor now has access to an employee who is both equally skilled and willing to work for less, which will thus put the discriminating employer at a competitive disadvantage.

The issue is feminist groups pushing "equal pay for equal work" laws to increase women salaries.

He says equal pay shouldnt be enforced because historically that hasnt led to equality. Letting groups find their niches and integrate themselves with newfound skillsets is more efficient.

I think he has some interesting ideas. Maybe not necessarily the best for addressing true prejudices such as the south african apartheid he compares it to, but interesting. However I don't think the whole topic applies to today's society as there isn't a wage gap.;

Yes, but not necessarily the driving force of his message. His basic premise is that women demanding equal pay for equal work shoots themselves in the food, because it reduces the risk of hiring a man over a women, assuming a woman could, or is, naturally, superior to a man, to 0, which improves the efficiency of discrimination against women, which they were attempting to counter-act in the first place.
