The study found a correlation between the cost of a wedding and divorce rates. Similarly, the study also found a similar correlation between the price of the engagement ring and divorce rates.

The article gives the normal PC reasoning behind why this might occur. What it doesn't say, is what we here all can deduct; higher maintenance women are more likely to seek divorce. I doubt it's a surprise to anybody here that the type of relationship where the (soon to be) wife pressures the husband into an expensive wedding or expensive ring is more likely to be doomed. Or, similarly, that a relationship where the groom is scared of spending too little money on the engagement ring is likely to have a higher divorce rate. We all see these scenarios often.

I doubt this information comes as too much as a surprise to anyone, but it's nice to have it backed by research.
