Would you take a bullet for your girlfriend? What about your wife? Does the distinction matter, and when does the decision of this level of self sacrifice occur.

Is the delusion of society a big factor in the willingness for men to sacrifice themselves for women, in relation to them or otherwise? What I mean by this is, if most men truly believe that women are capable of providing them with the love they expect (unconditional, like their mothers) they may be more likely to sacrifice themselves for their loved one. But knowing that this isn't true, does this change things?
