Yeah but what about all the self proclaimed genetics experts?! No matter how much they diet or exercise they will be fat forever. But they are healthy at every size. Right? /s

Yeah but what about all the self proclaimed genetics experts?
They defy the laws of physics

Contrary to popular belief, diabetes is good for you.

I'd be interested in seeing one of these for men, too. I think this is pretty universal of both genders in modern, developed countries. Hell...you don't even have to walk the aisles of the grocery store or get out of your car at McDonald's anymore.

men still have to work for validation and approval, women don't have to do shit and are worshiped on the daily, why should they put effort into their lives?

Right or wrong, what the hell does that have to do with my comment?

Food being more expensive, not as readily available and not filled with high-quality carbs is a much bigger factor imho.
That and killing time by eating. A really bad and unhealty habit.

Food is extremely cheap , especially health food, now if you shop at your local grocery store and buy pre-cut fruit than yea its expensive.
I just got a 50 pound bag of potato for $12 , that's 50 pounds of food!!!, try getting 50 pounds of food at mcDonalds.
Of souse you have to wake up at 6am and go to a farmers market. But throw in some beans and rice for protein and you are getting high quality protein + carbs for under $20 that will last you 2-3 weeks depending on how much you eat.

I was talking about food being more expensive 50 years ago.
Eating healthy nowadays isn't expensive, that's true.

How long does it take for one person to eat 50 pounds of food? Not trolling, just asking.
[–]benos4752 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Would depend on the food...Fifty pounds of ground beef? Fifty days (assuming I ate no other meat). Salad....no idea...that's a huge fricken amount of ruffage. Rice? Maybe fifty weeks.

I don't think that anyone honestly believes that this is all there is to it. But obesity has hit women harder than men, and men are kind of bitter at the degree to which so many women (and no small amount of men) have just decided not to bother trying to take care of themselves, particularly given how many obese women on the internet are constantly trying to bully other people into dating them. That is, when they're not simply treating the kind of women we do actually like as if they were shit.

You're definitely right. I'm just not a fan of sensationalist titles. They're everything that's wrong with modern journalism all rolled up into a neat little package.

I see what you did there.... ;)

The article mentioned 4.5 hours of TV daily. I'd like to see a second line graph showing hours of TV watched for male and female viewers over the decades.

I was curious what the "one" thing would be in this graph. Sure we're not as active as we were back in the 1950's but I think that's only part of the issue.
I think this would only account for a certain proportion of the problem though
This graph is definitely interesting; it definitely paints a picture. But I agree there's more. Sugar consumption is much higher....however, it's all table sugar and HFCS...our fruit (and other natural sugars) consumption is down. I know very few people that don't drink at least one soda a day. I know a few people who "hate" water and only drink soda and juice.
Calorie consumption is much higher, too. Processed foods have so much oil in their production and that translates into a lot of categories. Add in the fact that a lot of processed foods are deceptive in their serving sizes (Oh, look, only 5g sugar........per teaspoon????), are low in nutrients, and trigger overeating.
Like I said, interesting graph that tells an important part of the story...but there is so much more to account for.
