FR: Setting dates ahead of time

set up dates as EARLY as possible, within 2 days

Setting them ASAP gives less time in case she has an extremely important social event that she is invted to. Usually within 48 hours of first contact. Otherwise the girl will make other plans and radio silence/flake.

I find myself setting up a potential date then having second thoughts once the date gets closer and the girl gets annoying. Then I go to finalize the date a day or 2 before and I get radio silence. So, in my case, I am glad I hesitated.

I always set the first meeting for less than 24 hours or so from when I propose it, which is pretty much always possible. It just seems to be simpler and keeps the momentum from whatever initial conversation was going on that made a date possible.

The first date should be casual, I usually meet up for happy hour or similar after work if I think the chick is reasonable quality and I'll want to set a second "real" date. Or if I sense she's going to be DTF within the first few hours then I set it for drinks later in the evening, like after dinner, have a few and then escalate. I live in NYC by the way which is a 24/7 city where people are always out and about, dunno if the advice applies for going to the local Appleby's or whatever.

I agree with the OP's observation. You don't want to set a date early and then have to figure out how to keep the text conversation going the whole time, or not, etc. It's hard to make that feel natural.

One option you can try if you just can't get them out short notice is to say something like "Wednesday may work, am traveling out of town for day trip for work but should be back in time" or similar. That gives you an easy out if you're having second thoughts for whatever reason by that day. And for some reason having the plans be somewhat vague seems to prevent them from hamstering their way into flaking out, and keeps it casual and no pressure. YMMV.
