I just recently stumbled on this subreddit, read a few sidebar posts, and subscribed. I just turned 30 and have felt a call to make major changes in my life. I am the first son of four brothers born to a single mother who has been married several times. My mother did her best to take care of my needs, but I never had a father figure in my life. Because of that, I got bad habits at an early age. I became overweight and addicted to video games. I developed unhealthy relationships with food.

I joined the military out of high school to try and toughen up, but was dropped out of training due to back injury. I was still slightly overweight, but in the best shape of my life after a couple months of marine corps boot camp.

I went to university, started drinking heavily, gained weight, and got back into video games. Had a girlfriend for 6 years. We both decided to move abroad and work as teachers in Asia. After 2 years of living and working together, we split. We couldn't stand each other any longer.

I'm still in Asia. At one point I had gotten up to 240lbs (on a 5'8" frame). Over the past year I've cut it down to 200 lbs. I'm still a PC gamer, a wine drinker, and not as healthy as I want to be. I've started practicing a keto diet routine, and I'm working on making a 3 times a week weight lift regimen a routine. I've managed to quit smoking, and I've cut back the wine drinking to a bottle on the weekends. I want to quit drinking altogether, and really get motivated to be more active. I'm finding myself less interested in videogames, but still wanting to play at times.

One problem that I've encountered is that I have become increasingly isolated and lonely the longer I've been in Asia. I now realize that I have no friends to go out with on the weekends. I sit at my apartment with my two cats and think up things to do to keep myself busy and my mind preoccupied. I want to change this. I want to get a group of male friends with red pill-esque mindset.

What can I do as an expat in a foreign land to meet such friends?
