In short, no. That being said religion is the most powerful tool we have in balancing hypergamy, it is almost as if our ancestors saw a problem and developed a solution.

Sometimes, the answer is kind of irrelevant. The important thing is how you construct your question and arrive at your answer. No one can say for sure that God does or does not exist. But we can try to examine the reasons for believing one way or the other.

On one side of the debate evidence, reason, logic, and verifiable information are the most important aspects of the question. That is, what can we propose, test and objectively verify? From this perspective it appears somewhat unlikely that God exists, at least, in the sense that He is constructed by modern day religions. All of the predictions regarding God's existence are either untestable or resistant to verification. From this perspective it would be best to remain agnostic or atheist to the existence of a God (i.e. open to new evidence, but unpersuaded).

Another perspective uses feeling, faith, belief and mystery to invoke a sense of there being "more to life" than what we can see, hear, feel and smell. This is a poor way of constructing a statement of absolute truth, because it boils down to saying "We don't understand and therefore it has to be true". It is very true that humans don't understand our own universe, but because that is the case, it does not logically follow that you can then use that as verification for a God (and further still that He is the God as constructed from a holy scripture).

A second issue is the point from which you start, or your basic assumptions. If you take a position that holds nothing to be true until it can be proven in the positive, and you only accept objective, verifiable evidence and reason, I think you would likely conclude there is no God, or remain agnostic. If you prefer to accept a statement as true until it can be verified in the negative, then belief in God is acceptable. However, it is difficult or near impossible to prove things in the negative. For example, if I tell you that swans exist in each colour of the rainbow it would be necessary to examine each and every swan before proving my statement false. On the other hand, it would only require that I show you an example for each colour to prove my statement true in the positive.

I hope that example is clear, but it basically means that God could be proven real if we could independently verify his existence. It is not possible to disprove his existence because we do not know everything in / about the universe.

These are the key issues for determining whether or not God exists (for me); can we objectively verify evidence and what do we assume to begin with? It is a very interesting question and maybe others here would have better reasons for believing or not.

I used to do some hallucinogens, so I believe that almost anything metaphysical is possible. But since I stopped doing most of that, I'm more taking the agnostic stance.

I guess I would just say that spirituality is every person's own journey, if they even choose to go on such a journey.

I've found that I can't believe the stories different religions tell us. Even as we learn more and more about the universe, we're realizing we know less and less. It's a far stranger place and complicated place then I think most people could have ever imagined. Because of this, skepticism must be on the tool belt of any thinking person.

Then religions want to come along and say they've ALWAYS had the answers to the most important questions, the questions that should require the most evidence and scrutiny. But did they get these eternal answers by rigorous testing and observation? No, they came mostly from revelation and epiphany. And they're so simple, so obviously man-made that when you start to learn the true nature of reality, they sound at best silly and unnecessary. At worst they're downright misleading and damaging.

So that takes care of theism. But what of deism? Could there not still be some sort of god? And I suppose it's possible, but there doesn't seem any good reason to believe that's the case. If a god exists and interacts with us, he seems indiscernible from the natural laws that we have discovered for ourselves. And even if there is something "more" (which I don't think there has to be), why does that more have to be a god? Why is that the first conclusion everyone seems to jump to? Why can't we just be satisfied with saying we don't know, but were trying to find out? So I see no reason to believe deism, or a god, has to be true either.

Given the red pill attitude towards religion (many like it, all despise atheistkult, and beta-religious men ruin more then just thier own lives) I'd say there's probably quite a few hyper-fundamentalist Christians and atheists in the mix. They would of course prefer debate and discourse to the theological quandary over the 'meme' war that most everyone else seems to be in.

Personally I don't have the alpha male narcissism to say that anything other than epistemological agnosticsm makes any sense.

I will state that being a follower of Thor or a miso-theist would be pretty badass

I don't concern myself with asking the question; I thought this sub was about taking things into your own man-hands and getting shit sorted?

To quote Buddah:

"It is better to conquer oneself, than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels, demons, God, The Devil, Heaven, or Hell."

Once I have truly conquered myself, I might start thinking about God; it is currently an endeavor beyond pointless.
