Carbohydrates are literally the only way your brain gets energy.

Someone point this bitch to /r/keto

[–]adiradirim 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, your brain preferentially uses carbohydrates for energy but in fasting states it can use ketone bodies which are made from fatty acids.

Regardless, her point doesn't really mean anything. Nobody who "likes being fat" is that angry about it...

Not just fasting, whenever the body hasn't had carbs for a while and has depleted its glycogen stores. (Which in nature was a common scenario, fruits were not always available)

Ketones are a natural alternate fuel for the brain. In fact there is increasing evidence that the brain might even function better on ketones than carbs. Highly recommended reading:

I know, I know. There is absolutely no doubt that being in keto is a more optimal state for the brain. Just wording things lightly so newbies keep an open mind ;)

Oh, yea when I said fasting I was referring to the physiological definition and not the colloquial.

When your body uses up the stored glycogen it starts producing its own sugar through gluconeogenesis. Stored fats are broken down to ketone bodies as well. This is usually considered the fasting state.

Meanwhile, men just eat a burger when they want to without feeling the need to rant about fantastic it is to be a fat pig.

PLEASE VALIDATE MY LACK OF SELF DISCIPLINE AND DECISION TO BECOME A HUMAN SLUG!!!

Next step in her cognitive dissonance: "I am fat but I don't understand why men don't find me attractive."

[–]Tarn_Delus1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hamster's got this covered. -"men just can't handle a REAL woman like me"

[–]swolebird0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And fuck you. I like being fat.

And I'm going to use the entire rest of my rant to try to rationalize that statement. Even though underlying most of what I write is my unhappiness with being fat.

She tells you to look up protein and fat metabolism. Well I don't have to because I already know:

Ingested protein is broken down into it's constituent amino acids and then those amino acids are added to the "amino acid pool", ie, the blood and lymphatic system. As the body needs amino acids for growth and repair, it draws them from the circulatory system. Amino acids which are not used by the body for growth and repair are either excreted or......... converted into glucose (a carbohydrate) via a process known as gluconeogenesis.

Fat that is ingested is broken down into smaller lipid molecules and absorbed into the bloodstream where it is either used for growth and repair (ie hormones) or.... converted into glucose (a carbohydrate) via a process known as gluconeogenesis.

Glucose is then burned by the body as fuel. Glucose in excess of caloric needs is then converted either into glycogen (via glycogenesis) and stored in the liver and skeletal muscle, or...... turned into fat and stored. (So yes, you can eat too much protein and gain fat from it for all you bodybuilders out there).

Fat can be converted into glucose and glucose can be converted into fat. The two are interchangeable metabolically. Protein, however, can only be converted into glucose - the body cannot synthesize protein from glucose (as far as I'm aware).

The brain only runs on one carbohydrate btw: Glucose. The brain can also run to an extant on ethyl alcohol, but this is a pathological state and not the biological norm.
