It would be super nice if someone could help me finding an all combining explanation!
I was reading "men in love". The author pointed out that:
- Premise: men and women love differently
- Premise: a woman's love is rational and
- Premise: a man's love is romantic
- Premise: society twistes womens and mens love in that way: a. that men have to love rational and b. women have to love romantic
I agree with the premise 1-4 (because of my life experience), but I am having problems finding out why is it like that?
When I try to explain premise 2 with evolutionary arguments (=woman needs a provider/carer for herself and her offspring - so her love is more resource driven) it makes a lot of sense.
But I can't find any evolutionary argument to premise 3. It simply doesn't make any sense for me why a man should have the romantic love. It makes more sense to me, that a man is also a rational lover like the woman and wants to have a careing woman for himself and his offspring too.
So how does the idealized love come into play and why is the woman (somehow) excluded from that? If I may hypothesize: the romantic love as we know it, could be a culutural invention. (though I have no idea why it needs to be invented)
Why the woman is exluded from this cultural concept of love (but still men expect her to love like that), I dont have any hypothesis. I also don't know why a man should embed that creation and replace it for his rational love?
(Edited: because of spelling)
