The fact is there is nothing you can do, i've seen people detonate perfect matches, a wife go out and fuck a loser because her hubby wouldn't take her to a show that weekend etc.

You can do everything totally flawless and still fail because people are idiots, the best you can do is work on you so if it does fail you have you to fall back on.

marrying your first is a foolish choice. i remeber the big difference with my mentality between by first and my second girlfriend. you just start to not give a damn anymore and you wont have as much oneitis.
