I dont think i've said anything that makes me ahead of anyone. This is not a race against others, its a race against self... Sure looking at others may be an indicator of how far you are, but ultimately im running this race against myself, 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, doesnt matter as long as i finish the race. So no im not ahead of anyone. If anything i feel everyone is ahead of me.

You misunderstood me. I was refering to you saying
"good career path, and in decent shape."
You've admitted that, thats great! Tons of people don't believe it.
If anything i feel everyone is ahead of me.
Yea, that's called low self confidence, everyone started that way.

I do lift, but it doesn't solve anything. I still feel frustrated.
[–]abdada1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You should feel frustrated. You want immediate solutions to a decades-old problem.
Read the fucking sidebar. Repeatedly.

Hey telenoobies. You have some good advice from the other guys here. I would advise reading it and heeding it. I on the other hand have 3 chores or tasks for you to do.
First: every morning make your bed. (this was in a commencement speech by General "Mad Dog" Mattis. If it's good for him then...)
Second: Substitute water for soda.
Three: Start your exercise routine and keep it simple. (My daily cardio is a mile walk with my dog.)
That's it... 3 chores. Other guys will give better advice.

Thanks brother. I dont drink soda, only water. I have simple exercise routine, bench, dead lift, and squat. i dont go for heavy weights, I just put on enough so that I can do it consistently. I know i wont be the biggest guy, but Im not gonna be a lil bitch ass push over either. I guess thats my medium term goal, is to not be a damn push over for no one, not even myself.
Making bed doesnt seem too hard, I'll make my bed from tomorrow on ward.

"i dont go for heavy weights"
Not even llinear progression at all? You're wasting your gym time.
[–]telenoobies[S] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Lifting doesnt have linear growth. Last year I squatted 180lb not including bar, but now I dropped down to 120lb, not because I cant do 180, but because I enjoy being consistent than lifting heavier weights. Maybe it sounds like an excuse, but for me lifting lighter helps me be more consistent. I feel sense of accomplishment of just going to the gym, picking up "lighter" weights, doing everything slowly and feeling the work out. I am benching 90lb right now not including bar, which is probably considered light to many people here.
Wanting to lift heavy weights and have linear growth just gives me emotional pressure that I dont need, and i dont feel happy that way. Maybe i am giving excuses, i dont know, feel free to criticism me though, i am open.

Not to be a dick but its chores not choirs..sorry but this was really bothering me. Choirs are singing groups.

You can still join the military.
Possibly my biggest regret in life is that I was unable to serve (at the time I tried to enlist, any history at all of asthma, even juvenile, made the applicant ineligible). My family has a long history of serving in the Navy and Marines, and from my perspective, it is the formative experience of their lives.
I have friends who grew up in the most cosseted circumstances, and who decided to enlist because they realized what it had done to them. Many re-enlisted, saw combat, and some even worked for private contractors who sent them back into theatre. Historically, military service is a rite of passage, a builder of men.
I've met and become friends with men from the former Soviet Union who signed up to fight as mercenaries in Africa in the 90's. One said it was the single best experience of his life.
I think that military service and combat can change a person's perspective, for the better. I know that for many men (men better than I), combat takes a toll. So I don't think it's a universally bettering experience; it is, after all, something that can kill you.
Maybe this is what you need. Any vets, please weigh in. This is the opinion of someone who wasn't able to serve, and more informed opinions would help. But my observer's view is that military service can be a great thing for a man.

Yea, military is where men learn discipline, teamwork, leadership, hardship, and brotherhood. My father always told me I must act like a soldier, when I was 11 years old, back then I didnt know what he meant...
I wish I joined. But right now im on another path in life, and i wont turn back now, it is what it is. But I am still learning all of the above in a different way, just a little more bitter thats all...

Dead ass though, stop and think. You're depressed and you have a shit ton of impostor syndrome. I don't get how you say you're in shape but you regret not working out at some point in your life. Your past is your past, dawg.
Focus on who you are now, who you want to be now, and what you want now. Don't focus on bullshit like how TRP defines manliness, or how bitches define masculinity, or none of that. Figure out what makes a man a man to YOU, reject any thoughts of 'what if people don't approve', and go get it.
You're not a lost cause, bruh. You're headed on the right track now as you've said, so just keep it up. Go talk to someone about you not being able to leave bed - you could very well have depression via anxiety. I sincerely think you should stay away from TRP for awhile until you get your shit sorted out. This place is a parody of itself, with people both bitching about how society expects men to be cannon fodder and emotionless apes but at the same time praises a misinterpretation of stoicism and mentally masturbates about military service.
[–]telenoobies[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Thanks for the tips brother. I try to stay on the right track, but when I was young and had no guidance, i didnt know any better. Mistakes haunts me in my mind when I wake up to when I close my eyes at night. Depression and anxiety, I no longer see it as a bad thing, it is what it is and I have accepted that as a part of my life at the moment, and I am working hard battling it. I see results, but past haunts me still.
And yea, I get that TRP can be fucked up sometimes, but I feel its closer to truth than anything else out there.
[–]Need2LickMuff0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yup, it's the worst. Keep at it, though - Don't ever accept depression and anxiety as things that either can't be change or shouldn't be changed. Here's a rule I live by to get over those thoughts: It's not your fault until it's your fault. The second you realize you can be better and achieve more but don't do anything about it, your predicament is your fault. With that, you should see your ignorant ways as nothing but a part of your life where you were ignorant, and the present as your own personal enlightenment.. and you should recognize how impressive self-awareness is.
I go through the same shit; I know what it's like to stay up late at night cringing over shit you said or did when you were like 8 years old. I'm glad you get the fact that TRP is pretty fucked up at times (that's why I wrote that parody post above), but honestly when you're misguided and developing, being part of a community that is half good advice and half dogshit pseudo-alpha dick swinging doesn't help.
Going back to 'frame', I feel like this place would suit you when you have a plan and aren't as vulnerable. Not calling you soft by any means, but I know personally how fast you can be lead astray when you're misguided. Whatever you do, I hope for the best - IMO starting with looking for help with your depression/anxiety/whatever.
