Ignore her. She is fishing for attention (i.e. attention whoring). Girls will often talk or text about how other guys are interested in them or how a guy did or said whatever in an weak attempt to show that they have value when in reality their discussion of their interest from others is a show of insecurity.

Edit: She may be lying about breaking up with her BF to see if you respond in a beta fashion. By default assume the breakup is a lie. Also, why are you talking to a girl on another continent? Are you in Antarctica? If not I would try to make your life easier by talking to girls a little closer to home.

You have to be the male she is looking up to and talking to in the "she's telling her paternal admiration object that's she's found a cute boy" kind of thing, you do this by not caring and congratulating her and showing her you don't care what she does because she's not your only option.

Is that a shit-test? Yes and no, if you were the alpha male you wish you were it would genuinely be nothing to you but a quaint/novel "aw little babe met a boy I'm sure it will go nowhere and even if it does I don't give a fuck because she's a fool and will never get anywhere without me"(just putting in the narcissism factor in thinking about yourself to give you an idea of loosely how you should view it) thing. You should NEVER have reacted like that by telling her "if she does that you'll cut her loose', this just makes you look pretentious and arrogant in a BAD(read: non-pantymoistening), unattractive way. Like okay, she's just throwing that out there, she met a cute guy in a store!(or whatever she said), it means NOTHING, but you reacted to it in a way that blows it way out of proportion, makes YOU look like a beggar and an arrogant / pretentious / needy one at that(even though you threatened to 'cut her loose', you gave her a social ultimatum over next to nothing), and you failed a really easy to pass shit-test.

You have to be the guy who doesn't really care if she sees other guys because she's just a cute little friend who looks up to you kind of deal. That's it. Not her half-boyfriend who is into her but not dating her and pretending he doesn't want to but at the same time is giving her ultimatums for running into a cute boy at a store. She was just throwing it out there in the ego-feeding way that all women do, think of the genders as two archetypes, the man as the masculine war god and the women as the female sculpture of a greek goddess who, if left unchecked, will try to do just what man does - dominate everything around them and bend it to their uses and will - only instead of dominating the world women try to feed their personal egos by doing it SOCIALLY, to other PEOPLE rather than to things/countries/armies - the man when left unchecked will dominate the world, the woman will want everyone to worship her and swoon over her and give her lots of attention and provide drama she thrives on and is at the top of, everything in order to use people to fit her will which is feeding her own attractive goddess image of herself.

MOST IMPORTANT PART: The failure of the shit-test was that she threw you the massage-her-ego-bait, you fell for it, and fed her ego by providing validation and further upped her personal Drama Meter(which some women love - and she is one of them obviously by saying she "wants to understand your math" - a normal down to earth girl would have called you a fucking retard and said "lol you're kidding" or something and had no further normal romantic interest in you) via overreacting to her simply saying something about a cute guy, that to an alpha male would have been brushed off as nothing because he doesn't care and thinks that's cute(like if a little girl told you about meeting a cute boy, it would be nothing to you and you could make something funny out of it for yourself to snicker about for a moment before you NEVER. THOUGHT. OF. IT. AGAIN.).. women want to use people as a means to vicariously exercise their egos. When you reacted like that to her telling you about another guy you validated her need to feel wanted without her actually doing anything good for you, and you fed right into her ego-feeding drive (which was why she told you about the guy to begin with, do you think she was really trying to "converse" with you about it? No, she was trying to talk TO herself, ABOUT herself, IN FRONT OF another human being to get a potential ego-massaging reaction or at least validating her ego and giving her a confidence boost, which is the exact opposite of what you want to do in this situation).

I feel like this stuff that is just so simple goes right over people's heads when they get too caught up in "game" and these "strategies" that you read about here or on your favorite dating website or manosphere blog. You can't do shit like that, "i'll cut you loose" ..lol.. over nothing. You just made yourself look like a crazy punk who is overly involved and taking her way too seriously. ALL SHE WAS DOING WAS FISHING FOR ATTENTION. YOU GAVE IT TO HER IN AN INVOLVED WAY INSTEAD OF BRUSHING IT AND HER OFF. Yes, you did the opposite of what you thought you weren't supposed to do ..but you still did what you weren't supposed to do.
