As an aside, here's a pretty decent study, considering that if it had any bias, it would be towards the feminist side:

If there were no unexplained component to the gender wage gap, that is, if there were no differences in the pay men and women receive for the same characteristics, females would still earn less than men but only slightly (Table 1, Column 7). The earnings ratio net of differences in the returns to the same characteristics would range from about 85% in 1970 from the Gunderson (1998) to around 90% for the entire 1970-1990 period using the numbers from Baker et al. (1995) and 93% using Christofides and Swidinsky (1994). Again, the exception is the Coish and Hale study that estimates the earnings ratio without the unexplained component to be 97%.

The gender pay gap is smallest amongst single, never married men and women (96%) and highest among married men and women (77%) (Table 6). The smaller pay gap between single, never married men and women may be partly related to age as well as to the fact that they have similar commitments to the labour force and to household responsibilities.

He quotes the fact that women make the same if one does compare same qualification and same job.... and after that a sketch is played were women doing the same job (with presumably the same qualification) are suddenly payed 83cents.

And the crowd goes squeak squeak squeak.

Nothing new though. I had that discussion recently with some blue pill folks. Even the "If women are really a 20% cheaper workforce with the same qualification every firm would want them" falls on deaf ears. The refute was "I agree that does has some logic to it, but those are the numbers the government puts out and I trust them".

Adam Carolla said something about this along the line of: if women truly do get less money for the same exact work, then why are men hired to begin with? Wouldn't it be smarter for a boss to just hire women and save money?

Yes, John, a problem has to be quantified before it can be solved. That's the cornerstone of science and engineering.

We all know you don't want this "problem" to actually be studied and quantified because if it were, it would be exposed that pay differences exist for good reasons.

Oliver isn't BP or RP. He's a shill for the political hard left, and he'll say anything that aligns with those politics.
