TL/DR: I have a challenge for you. It's easy to cheat yourself. But... It's also extremely easy to keep on track for this challenge, because you'll remember each time you go to commit whatever activity it is you are going to.
Introduction:
HIIT burns body fat, typically without degrading muscle, and especially when compared to long distance running.
HIIT also increases testosterone and endurance. This random activity throughout the day, outside your lifting routine, is a good way to shock your CNS and body.
Additionally, it will cause you to keep a close eye on activities that can be less important, and time consuming. You'll have to pay a price to yourself to do them.
Body:
For the next 30 days, I challenge everyone to do one of these exercises before they log onto reddit. I will be doing this also. The first caveat is, if you're on for more than 10 minutes, that counts as a restart.
Jump rope (this is what I've chosen.)
Push ups
Any ab exercise
Shoulder push ups, AKA standing on your fucking head and pushing the ground.
If you use Reddit very rarely, I challenge you to choose another platform or type of repetitive activity.
Caveat number 2: these are meant to be pyramidal exercises. So for the next 30 days, you will be building on your sets and sticking with the same exercise. It's just an add on to your gym routine, and that's why I am suggesting something HIIT related such as jump ropes, sit ups, etc.
Caveat number 3: And you will be building on them in two different ways. I'll just use a quick, simple, example, to demonstrate.
Example:
Day 1: I log onto Reddit at 0900. Beforehand, I did 50 jump ropes.
Later that day, around 1800, I log into Reddit again. And this time, I do 2 sets of 50 reps as fast as I can, with a 30 or 60 second rest in between each set.
Day 2: I log onto Reddit at 1400. Beforehand, I did 60 jump ropes.
Later that day, around 2000, I log into Reddit again. And this time, I do 2 sets of 60 reps with a 30 to 60 second rest in between.
Day 3: I log into Reddit at 1640. This time, I do 2 sets of 60 jump ropes with a 30 to 60 seconds rest in between.
If I do log on that day, I will have to do 3 sets of 60... If I don't, I will continue the next day and pick it back up.
Continue for 30 days. Let's see how high you can get these numbers and sets. Also, if 50 jump ropes are too much, do 20, 10 whatever.
Note: There are no exceptions for the car or paying yourself back. if you want to play fair, you've got to pay yourself the exercise before you can log in. Boo!!! Yeah, so meditate or do something productive like reading in the mean time.
