Here's how I look at masculinity. It comes from the balls. That's where you feel it, that's where it lives. The drive to achieve, to explore, to build, to conquer, all of this is of the primal masculine, emanating from a sweaty bulging sack betwixt your thighs. Whatever your interests - philosophy, literature, science, engineering, business, combat sports, snorkeling, football, ballet, deathmetal, opera, knitting, rescuing kittens - when you sit back and relax and really think about that interest you have, what do you want to do with it? Personify your interest for a sec, and imagine it resisting you.

No, you will not save these kittens today, Oliveiras! You will not be allowed to think philosophical thoughts, or read great written works, not anymore! I, your interests personified, am escaping you!

What do you do, as a man? You chase that fucker down and you grab it. You subjugate your interests, you knock 'em down and conquer the shit out of 'em. If there's a philosophical principle eluding you, does it help to moan about it to your five closest friends? Or does it help to let a little of that rage, that thumos writhing inside your ballsack, loose for a minute, and feel the blood course through your veins as you think violent thoughts about how you absolutely will conquer this, and then the next one.

That's what my masculinity is.

I have not read the book yet but from what I gather in a nutshell from reading the reviews and summary of it:

is that opposites attract as opposed to 'Apposites'. Ergo Male attract Females and Females attract Males due to their polarising thoughts, physcial and biological nature.

You can use intellect and art to attract women as long as you understand that they see these as proxies for what you can provide them as a man (status; money) and can never understand, nor actually care for, the content of what moves you. And that when they pretend to, it is affectation and offputting.

You don't need to be an athlete or into sports to attract girls, but you do need charm and the ability to psychologically dominate others if you hope to be very successful with women. That's not something that will come directly out of your intellectual pursuits, though, if you enjoy literature, you should study the behavior of great seducers from history.

Dammit, you're a bit like me.

Can't stand sports. Bore the shit out of me (except MMA, but I don't see it anyway). Can't even watch the telly, no patience for all the asinine assholery and publicity.

The things that interest me seldom interest others.

From my point of view, its pearls unto swine, from theirs it is pedantic uselessness - and lets be fair, who exactly is to say who is in the wrong here?

I've learned to keep these interests out of the way, mostly. That's my way of dealing with it.

I used to discuss this stuff with my father, who had same tastes mostly, but passed away. Used to hope I'd have sons with at least some similar interests, but they turned out to be girls so I forgot about that notion.

With that name, WTF you from? Small country by the ocean?
