Eating meat isn't the issue here. The real issue is that you have a prissy worldview.

Sure, I wouldn't recommend binge drinking or smoking (especially if it's just to fit in and be cool), but I would hardly call those things immoral. I would especially not consider it immoral for omnivores to eat meat. These are just your personal hang-ups, and not a sign of your moral superiority. Keeping your word and living an honorable life are more relevant to one's character than eating meat, smoking, or drinking.

You need to internalize that and realize that it's all in your head.

Is it a moral dilemma because of what your family thinks? Or because of how others will see you? If yes, then screw it, no one cares what you do, or what examples you set. Let them figure it out on their own.

Your parents might not agree, or other Indians might not agree, but it's up to you. It's a moral dilemma because of what you were taught, but sometimes those teachings are not what is best for you. Eating meat is not harming any person, and if you feel bad about the animals being harmed, then don't do it. But it's not going to stop until we have genetically grown meat available in great quantities.

Everything in moderation and you'll be fine. If you want to be a vegetarian, be a vegetarian, if you wanna be a carnivore, then do that. Be who you want, do what you want as long as it benefits your life.

Hold on. Can someone please enlighten this American on what is so moral about avoiding meat? Plants are just as alive as animals are. Just because animals have a face and higher state of consciousness doesn't mean you're not killing shit so you can live. The "not causing pain" excuse is stupid too. Just because a plant's system is not as developed doesn't mean it doesn't react and try to make certain of its own survival. Any "morality" reasons to be vegetarian or vegan seem like complete bullshit to me.

While I'm at it what's so moral about avoiding alcohol? Are you now empathizing with the yeast and refuse to eat them too? If you were raised not to consume meat/alcohol and make the choice to continue that, that's perfectly fine. Make your own choices. But claiming you're taking the moral highground by not doing this? That your somehow better than the lowly meat/alcohol consumers? Bull. Fucking. Shit.

There is an important part where we are different, illegality, is not something I care much about although I take it into account.

I do however take morality into account, I just do not expect to be rewarded for it.

Do not forget that at least somewhat intelligent people are looking for people they can trust.

You can live for a year on the meat produced by a single cow.

1000's of animals are killed farming vegetables. The combines come and entire families of rabbits, mice, ... are wiped out.

Ask someone who lives on a farm. Your life has a cost, make it worthwhile.

I had the same problem. I became vegan and I tried to convince everybody. Know I eat meat from time to times, but I feel bad. Meat is like sugar, we are not supposed to obtain it that easely but we do. So it's like a drug, see the pleasure trap. It takes time like quiting tabacco but it's possible. Good luck !

From my perspective it's unnecessary baggage that clouds your judgement, but that's me.

To be truly free is to to act upon your own decisions and not give a fuck about societal stigmas or backlash you may receive.
