I was reading on another message board the other day. There's an organizer of a social club that gets mostly middle-aged people joining up.
One day they all met up a at a bar, and a probably mid-50s guys sits down next to the organizer points at a strange women in the bar and says,
"I can’t wait for that woman over there in the short skirt to climb over that bench (right across from him)"
Turns out, he was a retired military officer that she was baffled at how a mature man could say such a thing. The consequence, she booted him out of the club.
A couple of men thought it was ridiculous, as we don't know the context of the situation nor was anyone on the message board actually there to witness the context in which it was said, but some women said that men that question this are insensitive to this situation in not even CONSIDERING that he was indeed being sexist.
Other women chimed, acknowledging that the MeToo movement should extend beyond just assault/abuse, etc.
Basically, illegal activities...but towards everyday, sexist comments that men have gotten away with because maybe they could get away with it around their peers for so long, or perhaps their peers don't take issue with it, even some WOMEN peers do not take offense.
But, there will always be one that will get triggered and go off the handle.
One man did comment, he was from New Zealand, now he has a long time reputation on the message board. I admire his rather pragmatic and logical approach to any situation.
He didn't understand how a THIRD party made it even more unjustified to lump that comment on the MeToo pile
His feedback:
((His comment may be viewed as questionable, inappropriate, or even offensive (if one is easily offended), but how does it qualify as sexist?
Like "racist", it is not uncommon to use "sexist" to describe things that aren't really sexist.))
((The Me Too movement is against sexual harassment and assault. How does an expression of interest in a second person directed at a third person qualify as sexual harassment or assault?))
You see, I would imagine other countries see us as a laughing stock of overly sensitive numnuts and he doesn't understand. Of course a woman was saying, "Well I don't know how they do it over there in NZ, but in the US of A...it's a big deal to women!"
Then they take offense to this guys's response:
((Frankly it's not your place to criticise women for how they use #metoo. If it's not appropriate, then women can tell her that. We don't always have to have a man to explain to us how to do things right.))
