I wouldn't walk away from an opportunity that you're currently working through.

That being said, you need to find a mentor within the company -- someone who is a go-getter and aggressive and makes 5X what you do. Not all companies have someone like this, but many do (small or large).

On the side, you should be looking at secondary income streams. What are you good at that you can leverage your spare non-entertainment time towards?

Don't put all your eggs in one basket: not a woman, not a job, not a city you call home.

Simple answer, yes you should be looking for more opportunities.

Slightly more complicated answer. A typical job these days lasts three weeks (you suck), three months (it took us a while but yes you suck) or three years - time to just move on. There is no job for life anymore. So yes, you should be looking round.

Does your employer really have room to move up? Has anybody ever moved up? If so, crack on.

More complicated answer: You should do one of two things. Look at the job market, advertisements, vacancies, and see what your skillset matches up to, or could match up to with a little effort or further study. If it's where you want to be, then crack on. If you want to do something else entirely, better start moving that way,

Always. But 52k a year for a single dude is pretty comfy. I dont know where you live or what debt you may have but if I was riding 50k a year right now Id be happy. Always strive for more though. If you have any disposable income spend some on other high value people and try to move around. Have 'parties', get togethers with other high value guys in the group. Start inviting them for drinks or lunch or whatever. Use money and transfer it to rapport with people that can help you grow. Doing this as efficiently as possible is how you get ahead.

Why wouldn't you always be proactive about getting better? It's hard for me to say if you are above/below average, when you didn't really say what exactly are you doing. Management? Sure looks good! Finance at a bank? Maybe you have room to move up... it varies on your location/degree.

Pretty good honestly (for where I live), I just graduated and would be happy to be earning in that range.

Edit: Will also mention that 52k is above what some (if not most) can live off of.

I was making 45k living at home 2 years after college and had just got my first "real" job you are doing fine (45k is nothing in NYC). I graduated during the shit-cession which didn't help. Especially if you are not living in NYC 52k is great. I was able to bust my ass networking, changed industries and now I am making 50k more than that 5 years later. Just don't get caught in a dead-end and make sure you jump ship every 2 years if you are not getting merit increases along with somewhat additional responsibilities.

Don't be in a rush TOO MUCH to make big money because people will judge your income based on your age and geography. So if you are like 30 years old making $100k in Georgia skepticism will definitely be abound. They will poke and prod to try and find weaknesses. 30 years old $100k in NYC would be viewed as OK though (depending on the industry).

All-in-all once you get to the 75k+ range you need to get supervisory experience in order to justify the pay increases you get. Make sure to look at sites like payscale.com etc and network and ask colleagues ranges of what they are making along with general responsibilities if they feel comfortable sharing that. You kind of need it in negotiation talks with current or prospective employers as a reference point to what the "market rate" and value is.

Right now I make sure to ask the upper range (but not to the point I become "over-paid") of my salary because clients feel comfortable with me and I am proactive and communicate well - Best of all I have a habit of documenting everything and covering our ass - That is not something you can take for granted in my industry.

Focus on developing robust skills slightly outside of your job description but develop and hone in on one fall-back skill that you simply do better than everyone else naturally. For me it's always being three steps ahead of the client's expectations and most teams do not have a person with that knack.

The first 6months-2years, you should learn everything you can and make yourself indispensible. After that, start looking to move up.

At every next level, learn everything you can, make yourself indispensible, and move up. Find a good mentor who's going places and ride his coat tails.

If you don't move up after two years, go somewhere else to move up.
