You could take the same lessons from much better characters. I haven't read the book, but the business card scene in the movie shows how weak he really is.

He craves external validation. When he's denied attention and praises, violence ensues.
He submits to public opinion. This is shown through his sophisticated monologues and music tastes. He simply repeats any gibberish he reads on ads or popular magazines.
He cares way too much about hierarchies. He doesn't work out because it's in his best interest, but so that people will like him more. Again, he craves acceptance and recognition like a desperate child.

PB is an empty shell of a man. The fancy restaurants, the cool suits and violent acts... he just can't fill this fucking void inside him. You can almost taste his frustration in each and every scene.

Maybe the book is different, I'll give it a read.

Great analysis man. Let me elaborate:

He craves external validation. When he's denied attention and praises, violence ensues.

PB shows his business card to his friends. They take this as an opportunity to show theirs. PB proceeds to become increasingly physically shaken; sweating, clenched jaw and weakness in his voice. He proceeds to attempt to murder the last man to show his business card by strangling him in the toilet. He hates that their cards are superior to his.

He submits to public opinion. This is shown through his sophisticated monologues and music tastes. He simply repeats any gibberish he reads on ads or popular magazines.

The restaurant scene with his girlfriend and friends, where he recites a philanthropically and socialist opinion on ending world hunger, and acquiring world peace. He has obviously thought long and hard about this, and practiced the speech all to get a few seconds of validation. The real alpha on the table laughs at him.

He cares way too much about hierarchies. He doesn't work out because it's in his best interest, but so that people will like him more. Again, he craves acceptance and recognition like a desperate child.

The opening scene with his morning ritual ends with him saying disappointingly: "I am simply not there". He has become a human advertisement. His eternal struggle to attain perfection in the eyes of everyone but himself has removed any semblance of personality or identity. His whole life is chasing others' affection.

PB doesn't exist.

This is highlighted numerous times in the movie. People constantly confuse him for other people, that's why he gets away with mass murder.
