Hey OP, don't let these guys get you down. Everyone moves at different speeds; as long as you're always moving forward, how fast you're going is up to you. Focus on the good things you can take away from this experience, listen to the legitimate criticisms offered by a couple of the other commenters, and most importantly, apply everything you learn to the next time around.

Two responses to this.

  1. Be honest. 'I like younger women.' It's fine, but you may be judged.
  2. The vomit inducing but highly effective response. 'To be honest, I never think about age, sometimes you're just attracted to someone.' It also helps them hamster as to why they are going out with someone old enough to be their dad.

The response I like to use here is, "Girls my age are usually so boring. Younger girls are always a lot more fun. The only thing is sometimes they can be kinda immature." You know it worked if she starts qualifying her maturity and worthiness to you.

I'll tell you what though brother, if she offers a lot and the main downside is extra blubber...you could always keep her on board as an occasional plate and reinforce that she needs to heighten her fitness level. My girl right now I'd put at a solid 7, but I'm slowly raising her up to an 8 through guidance in proper nutrition and exercise. Depends on whether you want to spend the time doing that though. I enjoy mentoring, but it's not for everyone.

I'd still advise against dinner as a first-date standard. I have a buddy who tends to fall back on it as a go-to, but like I keep telling him: dinner is for relationships. A bar is for meeting someone. Since this girl is 18 - depending on the drinking age in your area - maybe a bar wouldn't work logistically. That's my problem with the under 21 crowd, though. I don't really have a solution to offer, because 21 is as young as I'll go. The logistics are just easier when you can tell her to meet you at a bar.

EDIT: Oh hey, just saw from another of your comments that the drinking age is 18. Bar, all the way. You can talk to other people, flirt with other girls, lots of opportunity to display high SMV. Restaurant you've got to rely on initial attraction and just build it through conversation.
