So, let's require women to take extra teaching hours, so the field can be leveled. Or is that thinking considered misogynist? I really want women to do as good as men in science.

They tried numerous methods. The different methods increased scores, but it increased male and females scores equally; the gender gap remained despite intervention.

Isn't there a point of saturation though? Maybe they should have pushed for even more additional teaching

Hard to say. Sounds like they performed a literary review of already existing studies.

This is a particularly relevant issue because performance is tied to social justice attention and action.

If women or minorities perform worse than men or non-minorities, then the default assumption for many people is that white men (and asian men) have an unfair advantage, and programs need to be implemented to make everything equal.

Everyone seems to cry discrimination and harassment but I really don't believe there's a systematic oppression of female students when it comes to math, science, logic, mechanical reasoning, and creative problem solving.

Honestly these things are incredibly hard to prove. How do you measure the accuracy of a particular testing method if you don't know the natural distribution of aptitude for what you're testing for?

It's only a mystery because they don't want the truth - men have more interest and ability in this area.

Nature or nurture? That's always the biggest unanswered question. It's actually really hard to figure out, and not just because the studies are controversial. How do you know where you're supposed to be when you are where you are?

I was thinking it might be about the physics GRE, though that threat has already been neutered.

Five years ago the Physics Department at the University of Texas at Austin began requiring a 700 on the Physics GRE for admission to Ph.D. Candidacy. This requirement eventually led the admissions committee to use an unofficial requirement of 600 for graduate admissions because of the difficulty students had bringing up their scores. Shortly thereafter, we noticed a dramatic drop in the number of women graduate students entering our department. Three years worth of data from American applicants to the UT Physics department was analyzed (31 women, 363 men). The 600 cutoff eliminated 55 percent of the female applicants and 24 percent of male applicants. Only 10 percent of the women applicants had over a 700 while 47 percent of the male applicants had already achieved a score higher than 700. The average Physics GRE score for male applicants was 100 points higher than the average female applicants score.
