The fuck is this trigger warning shit? We're men, not self-aggrandizing SJWs.

[–]bcuz_itmatters[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

was just saying what the content did for me; made me super angry and I felt like I was going to puke.

[–]GenericHusband0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't say this is a trigger warning.

It seems closer to saying, "Hey, if you don't want to become incredibly pissed off and filled with rage, don't read this, because this shit is infuriating."

Don't let your hatred of SJWs cloud your judgment and reasoning. Just because morons abuse the term trigger warning doesn't mean that it's always wrong to warn people about what they are going to read.

Aside from that, trigger warnings, as an idea, are legitimate. It's not wrong to want to avoid causing someone to go into epileptic shock(flashing lights) or emotional distress(recently raped) by typing out a quick warning.

Trigger Warning: Thread may contain dildos. /s

[–]GenericHusband3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's not a trigger warning, that's a trigger invitation!

[–]chairmobile 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Don't let your hatred of SJWs cloud your judgment and reasoning.

Where is my judgment/reasoning being clouded?

Using terms like "you might puke at this" is exactly the type of oversensitized bullshit SJW's use. "Ugh threw up in my mouth, wow just wow".

Trigger warnings don't cause harm, true. They're just another sign of an oversensitive feminine society and they're annoying to me.

[–]GenericHusband0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

What I mean is that you are annoyed by hyperbolic statements. Things like "you might puke at this" and so on.

They annoy you because they are over used by SJWs, they remind you of SJWs.

I'm saying, don't be annoyed by hyperbole, just because a group you adamantly dislike uses hyperbole.

The clouded judgment is in reference to your dislike of something useful and awesome(hyperbole) because of its association with Tumblr.

Hyperbole isn't wrong, useless, stupid or anything like that. It can and is used in stupid ways, but that doesn't mean we can't use it, or that it is always stupid/over-sensitized.

The difference in this scenario is clear. An SJW will say "This made me puke" to a video of a man talking into a camera about his reasonable opinions. They simply disagree, but are too indignant and self-righteous to be understanding of another person's opinions, especially when they contrast starkly with their own.

We might say, "This made me puke." to a forum of scores of people saying absolutely abhorrent and indefensible things like "Men can't be raped." It's understandable because the subject matter is truly egregious. It is not open to debate, it is simply a monstrous and despicable opinion to have.

Of course, do what you want. This is just my opinion on the matter.

Edit: Your last sentence almost swept by me. I gotta be clear here, trigger warnings are not just a sign of over-sensitive feminine society. That is to say, trigger warnings BY THEMSELVES. What is a sign of this over-sensitive society of children is the fact that there are trigger warnings for everything. It is so rampant that its meaning is lost. Trigger warning: calorie counting. Trigger warning: logic. Trigger warning: trigger warnings. That said, I have no problem with trigger warnings and would gladly put them in to posts I made if I thought it was necessary. Being courteous and thinking of the needs of others is not over-sensitive. It's simply being courteous and actively attempting not to cause undue harm to a potentially innocent person.

The emotional stress of coming to terms with rape is severe and massive. It should be treated with respect. The physical repercussions of an epileptic seizure can be life threatening.

Because of the gravity of these situations, because of the consequences not warning someone can have, it is a good idea to have a way to let someone know before they dive off the deep end.

Cis-male scum are always in the position of power and authority! Men can't be raped. /s

[–]bcuz_itmatters[S] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nonsense isn't it?

This goes all the way back to Genesis 19 when Lots daughters got him drunk and laid with him while he slept.

It could be argued they had fairly legit reasoning and even OT God called it an abomination.

This is a new one for me - raping someone by threatening to cry rape.

This could spur a new type of self-referential crime:

  • Robbing someone by threatening to accuse him of robbery
  • Blackmailing someone by threatening to accuse him of blackmail
  • Harassing someone by threatening to accuse him of harassment

Note that this sort of crime can only happen when the criminal is in a position of privilege, i.e. their accusation is the sole piece of evidence needed to convict. Women in the West are in this sort of position now.

Keep those phone cameras rolling, guys.

EDIT: relevant paragraph from Helen Smith - well-said and I'm a huge fan of hers:

Women have much more psychological and legal power against men in our society and blackmail is very easy, given the current legal and political climate. Women know that men and boys have no or little legal recourse against them and use this to their advantage to get what they want. If you don’t believe this, take a look at Crystal Gail Mangum who made false rape charges against the Duke students. Any jail time for her? Nope. Her reward for lying? She just finished her bachelors degree in “criminal psychology” of all things!

Whenever something like this happens to women, I will give the following argument. Everyone calls me a prick, or a jerk, or a misogynist. But now that I see the same situation for men, it still fucking applies. Anyways, here goes.

While I'm not going to say this guy deserved to be raped, he WAS partly responsible for this shit happening. He CHOSE to get black out drunk. He CHOSE to get a hotel room with a person of unknown character. He CHOSE to share the room with her when they could have got separate. In other words, he was complicit in his own victimization. So... what do we tell a guy like this? Are we to be as stupid as feminists and declare he is 100% the victim, and therefore we need to teach women to stop using the threat of rape as a method of sexually coercing men?

Of course not, because we actually have some thoughts circulating in our head, and we are not here to foster a culture of victim-hood. We should use this as a teaching example that shit can happen when we anesthetize our consciousness with booze or whatnot. Doubtlessly, the woman here deserves punishment, but an overarching lesson should be taught as well- DON'T PUT YOURSELF IN COMPROMISING SITUATIONS.

For comparison, imagine this same guy were to take a stroll through a sketchy portion of town with a bunch of money. He gets robbed. Obviously we punish the robber, but we also call this guy an idiot for putting himself in such a position.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Truth, in the end the threat of a rape accusation in the situation is comparable to the physical force a man can exert on a woman.

As an addendum though, what kind of guys are brought up or educated in any way that this could happen to them? Women are lambasted with the message that all men are potential rapists. Of course we now better, but most men get the special snowflake lecture.
