Well, there are two sides to this. On the one hand, Baker's idea that deformed sperm are functionally different, that there are 'killer sperm' and 'blocker sperm' aside from those that just go for the egg, is controversial. Tim Birkhead did an experiment to see if mixing two men's sperm showed any sign of them killing each other off, and didn't find any. However, sperm competition in the sense of just "it's a race" when there are two ejaculates present is really not controversial. I think it is an interesting read, but that book, which was written for the mass market, got a fair bit of flack (unfairly, often) because it didn't have references, and so on. The book that gave all the studies and references, which this is a popularization of, was more academic.

And yes, there is some interesting stuff about both male and female behaviour. I would not take any of it as gospel, but as interesting ideas, some of which will be true, to help explain male and female behaviours (eg that when woman fucks Chad she comes back and immediately wants Kevin, her boyfriend BB). I couldn't swear that this is true, however.

For those that want the real deal, not the popularized version, the book is

Baker, R. and Bellis, M. (1995). Human sperm competition: Copulation, competition and infidelity.

I read this over 15 years ago, and it was great.
Aside from the various types of sperm and how they compete, it is an excellent overview of evolutionary biology and touches on important topics (but not with trp lingo) like neoteny, paternity uncertainty, hypergamy, mens' and womens' sexual selection strategies, alpha fucks beta bucks, rape, etc. He doesn't talk about r/K strategy using that term, but if memory serves he does talk about it.

It was one of the first things pushing me in the direction of the trp.

The penis on human males was designed to scoop out other men's sperm.

In an article published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, Gallup and Rebecca Burch argue that “a longer penis would not only have been an advantage for leaving semen in a less accessible part of the vagina, but by filling and expanding the vagina it also would aid and abet the displacement of semen left by other males as a means of maximizing the likelihood of paternity.”

This “semen displacement theory” is the most intriguing part of Gallup’s story. Since sperm cells can survive in a woman’s cervical mucus for up to several days, if she has more than one male sexual partner over this period of time, say within forty-eight hours, then the sperm of these two men are competing for reproductive access to her ovum.

So how did nature equip men to solve the adaptive problem of other men impregnating their sexual partners? The answer, according to Gallup, is that their penises were sculpted in such a way that the organ would effectively displace the semen of competitors from their partner’s vagina, a well-synchronized effect facilitated by the “upsuck” of thrusting during intercourse.
