Some background: Richard Ramirez, maybe more commonly known as the "Night Stalker", kept much of LA and then San Francisco in anxiety and fear for a year in the 80's due to his vicious rapes and murders. He was convicted of 13 murders, 5 attempted murders, 14 counts of burglary, and 11 counts of sexual assault. Some of his "highlights" include cutting a woman's eyes out and taking them with him in a jewelry box he stole from her, slashing a woman's throat so viciously that she was nearly decapitated, and raping an 81 year old woman, and using an electrical cord to electrocute her sister after bludgeoning them both. His prison sentencing took over 4 years, partly because of his outbursts during sentencing (such as swearing at the judge or displaying Satanic symbols written on his hands).

Despite his horrific and brutal attacks against random people, once he was locked up in prison women from across the country flocked to his prison and even fought for his affection. He got married while in prison and his wife vowed to commit suicide when he was executed.
