I recommend every guy on this sub read Starship Troopers, if only for the portions where the protagonist is in "History and Moral Philosophy" class. If I had faith that everyone would read it the whole way through, I'd even advocate putting it on the sidebar. To whet your appetite, note that some of the earlier quotes in the link sound like they could be on the sidebar:

Heinlein was awesome, but I have to admit I like Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven even more. Compared to them Heinlein was as a writer, how to put it, perhaps a bit on the too nice and too optimistic side.

For example of military SF I really enjoyed Pournelle's Falkenberg's Legion series, that is a bit more about really hard decisions than Heinlein.

Heinlein would definitely be on a Red Pill reading list. Add some Ayn Rand and some John Norman. And then throw in Jefferson, Nietzsche, Aristotle, and Marcus Aurelius.

Please not Ayn Rand. If you want someone with similar ideas, then James Clavell, like Tai Pan, Noble House, King Rat, Shogun, and so on. Clavell could actually write. Ayn Rand was IMHO a horrible writer, I've read only two books, Atlas Shrugged and Anthem, the first one is full of logical inconsistencies and two dimensional cardboard cutout characters, the second reads like a morality tale for really small children. Clavell was something sort of an Objectivist or in that neighborhood himself, but Tai Pan is something actually well written. Shogun is IMHO one of the best novels ever written.

One of my favorite books of all time. I think Heinlein was on to something, and it's the reason I myself served in the US Infantry for four years and did a tour in Afghanistan.
