Actually, preselection is the #1 attraction switch out there. BUT, to get preselected you first have to have something going for you, which could be STATUS.

They're symbiotic, with preselection being a type of status. The way I see it status gets you women and that's when you get the preselection. Granted you don't need status to get the women, which in turn would get you the preselection.

Preselection is status.
Status is the overarching category that encompasses nearly everything you are and do. Being big and buff is a form of status, being the top competitor of some event / sport is a form of status. Having a job that gives you large amounts of responsibility is a form of status. Being publicly recognized for something (famous) is status. And having some hot chicks hanging on your arms or smiling around you is big time perceived status.
Nearly all of a women's attraction cues are based around subconsciously determining how much status you have compared to every other male she perceives is available.
For guys, status is this rational measured concept based on achievements. For girls status is what you are and is ever changing and dynamic.

me and my college friends became "campus famous" for throwing the best party of the year. It was cool getting called out while walking across campus, or getting free pizza/beer at bars/restaurants. For a short period of time, we were "those guys!"
We took a few extra steps to separate our parties from the typical sausage fests the college town had every weekend:
Invite ONLY girls. We handed out flyers to about 400 girls, 200 showed up, some with guys in tow. Never forget guys will follow the women, you don't need to invite any. Ratio ended up being a perfect 50:50. Chicks were way more laid back with an even ration compared to the typical sausage fest. Guys were more laid back because well, they didn't have to wait in line or fight to talk to a woman. Put someone on cop watch Campus cops these days like to break up parties for no reason. Cover the windows, post someone at the doors to keep them closed, keep crowds from spilling outside. We had an old security guard roaming. I chatted him up, he's an old Vietnam vet and smoked like a chimney. We gave him a carton of reds, he steered cops away all night. Get someone who knows how to DJ for real DJ, not some dude with a laptop full of MP3's. Pay for one if you have to. Someone who knows how to work a dance floor into a frenzy. Lots of booze This one is a no brainer. Do the hairy buffalo thing, jello shots, whatever, but have kegs tapped too. Some chicks only trust what they see come out of the keg, oblige them.

You're talking about becoming famous then, which is a whole other ballgame. You need to do something exceptional. Off the top of my head that means making it with acting, being in a band, or something along those lines. Just being in a band doesn't cut it, you've got to actually play shows. That's when the groupies come to you :)
Fame = status, but status does not necessarily mean you're famous.

All of those are easy to do simultaneously. Military four years and get that college education paid for. Comp sci or engineering degree in college another four years. After that if you want you could even go into the military and do engineering work.
US Army MOS 25B is perfect for launching into the IT career field. The enlistment requirements are higher then normal, 6 years but everything you do can be translated into experience on a resume. Provided the person involved isn't a dirt bag that just does the absolute minimum and spends his free time drinking and playing XBOX.

We used to rock concerts by dressing in suits, black sunglasses and earpieces and one guy would dress up in a lab coat with a red NASA t-shirt on, nerd glasses and a fake Scientist ID Badge and we'd all stand around him acting like his body guards and just mingle as a group around.

We are all bunch of meat sacks filled with water, nothing special. While our bodies are amazing and our brains do complicated things, our behaviour as a group, unless you are in an outlier group, is very predictable.
Thus, we have a bunch of documentation on fallacies and human biases in our heuristics that are not always logical.

This and that status is fluid. Having status in one social circle or perhaps field of study or career doesn't necessarily translate to having status elsewhere in life.
A functional way guys can leverage status in their daily lives is by networking and creating events around their hobbies, particlarly if they're hobbies that women are keen on. An example is once a month create an event you'll be hosting. Invite all the women you've met over the last month who have an interest in whatever the topic is that the event will be about. When everyone shows up, you're the "top dog" because it's your event. Bartenders, club owners, and rock stars enjoy the status they do for this very same reason. All it takes is a little bit of networking and foresight and you can have the same kind of experiences, albeit just on a smaller scale.

I saw this video a while ago and tried a much cheaper version on new years this year.
The bar I found myself at around 12 had a guy roaming around taking pictures, obviously mostly of drunk girls "living it up". I talk to everyone and we started talking about how he was their ticket to 10 mins of fame. Long story short, convinced him to follow my cousin and I around for a good 15 mins taking pictures of us doing all kinds of crazy shit with every attractive girl we could find. They all just lapped it up like kittens and milk because a professional photographer was geared up, I was suited up, and we were cocky as hell.
You all know how it went after that.

While I was watching the video, my first knee jerk reaction when the guy with the mic was asking people whether they knew him/what they liked him in, was that if I were in the crowd, and asked the question, I'd be able to say with certainty and firmness that "I don't know this person".
But then, I thought about it more, and came up with another scenario, equally likely if not more: I walk along the streets of NYC, the commotion of the crowd and my curiosity draws me in, see the dude, legitimately don't know who this guy, asks someone nearby, and they tell me "he was in Spider-man" (of course they only heard it from someone else to begin with). Here I might pause and ponder, "hmmm, I don't recall this dude, so he can't have played an important part though, maybe he had a smaller role..." But at that point, I would already be unsure, and likely would have given this guy the benefit of the doubt that he played some minor role in the movie that I just don't remember.
So in my opinion, I think it likely that quite a few people in the crowd ended up like that.
