Summary:
"The one" only exists to those who are locked in their own mind and perception. If you look outside the box, look at reality, you'll see clearly see how much of a fallacy it is.
Body:
I used to believe in fairy tales, 'the one', true love, all that. It's comforting we can believe a higher power is running the show, has our trials and tribulations picked out for us. We think like this because of our perspective. Because we are in our own bodies, see the world through our own eyes and feelings, we think we are the center of the world. This is very similar to early man's thought that the Earth was the center of the universe. What finally broke me free was something off the wall, but humbling.
In World War II, only about 70 years ago, the final estimated death toll is regarded to be 60,000,000–85,000,000. Millions, folks. Grandfathers or even fathers depending on your age, but also many many single or engaged individuals. Many were 18-25, young people. Not married. They didn't find 'the one' before getting slaughtered by an MG42 stepping off a landing craft at Normandy.
The Russians, who lost the most in the war, were sent to Stalingrad on trains, tossed off, one guy handed a bolt action, crudely made, outdated, Mosin Nagant rifle. The second person, just 5 rounds of ammunition on a stripper clip, and send to the slaughter. When the first was killed, the second picked up the rifle and continued on. This was their mentality.
The second highest death toll is 40,000,000–70,000,000 from the Mongol conquests from 1206–1324. From there, the list goes down with other wars hitting hard at 25 million and so on. What I'm getting at is a shit ton of people are mindlessly killed all the time when history happens.
Just with the atomic bombs, 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 39,000–80,000 in Nagasaki were instantly vaporized. [Ok, some were, many others died later from radiation, etc... stick on point with me here].
So yes, you are here, sitting on your computer. You're just fine. You have water, vending machines around you at work, cell phones, creature comforts. Life is good. It's rare people die before reaching old age right now, especially in the United States. Everyone thinks they have a story, a plan, 'the one' sitting out there for you that you'll soon magically walk into going to the bus after work. Cupid's arrow will nail both of you in the ass and love will magically happen.
Just focusing on one single war - for the 60-85 MILLION individuals killed during WWII, their 'other half' will not meet their other half. Or their one was also killed by the Third Reich, or allies, depending on the side. For most, not all, of those people, they never found the one.
So can you still sit there in your comfy computer chair and think 'the one' exists or your already met them?
