Studies supporting TRP theory

Personally, I wouldn't talk to people about TRP. People don't view the world with logic, they view it with faith. You can't change someone's religion simply by talking to them.

You can find some scientific studies simply by searching for science or study on this Reddit. But the problem is that this isn't physics or chemistry. It is an inexact science, so it will never be enough to convince someone because he/she will always be the exception. The real idea to take away is that you subscribe to a view that is based on anedoctal evidence while they subscribe to a view that doesn't match anedoctal evidence or personal experience. Do you really think you can convince someone when they think like that?

I once did a literature search to find out if gender indeed plays a part in hamstering. Keywords I used were "self-justification", "post-hoc rationalization", "moral hypocrisy" and "moral disengagement". A number of studies found no significant effect of gender, while some actually suggested that men were the bigger hamsters:

Kray & Hasehunn (2012) "Across multiple contexts, men demonstrated a consistent pragmatism to their ethical reasoning. Remarkably, women's ethical reasoning was unaffected by motivational biases."

Grussendorf et al. (2002)"Female respondents resist moral disengagement more than male respondents and medical or university students tend to resist moral disengagement more than high school students."

Bandura et al. (1996) (among children ranging 10-15 yrs): "Males exhibited higher moral disengagement than did females. The major sources for this difference were males’ greater readiness to provide moral justifications for detrimental conduct, to mask it in euphemistic language, to minimize its injurious effects and to dehumanize victims and attribute blame to them."

Paciello et al. (2008)(adolescents 14-20 yrs) "In accordance with previous findings (Bandura, 1999, 2004; Bandura et al., 1996), boys showed higher levels of moral disengagement than did girls and a lower decline from ages 14 to 16."
