Are you really a special snowflake?

There are millions of individual unique strands of DNA that go together to make a person. But for arguments sake let's say that each man is made up of 100 unique strands of DNA. The overal gene pool represents strands that can exist in any single man, so let's say the gene pool size is 150 unique strands of DNA. So far we have:

  • Per Man 100

  • Total available in Gene Pool 150

Okay so when you reproduce you mix your 100 with a woman's 100 and create a new human being that represents a random merging of these two DNA sets.

What is unique about you?

Nothing really.

  • It's unlikely that ANY of us hold a truly unique strand of DNA.

As long as humans survive with a large enough Gene Pool that contains all possible strands of DNA there is nothing gained or lost except the proportion of certain strands relative to others.

The Alpha male is simply passing the same genes along... his existence does not alter the Gene Pool in a significant way.

There was a "greedy gene" theory once based on the same concept where we become like "hosts" to pass our genes along.

Kind of puts a weird spin on it.
