Caveat: I may be completely off my rocker with this post. This is a shower thought, and we never truly know how good they can be. Correct me if you feel I am out in left-field with this post.
TRP is a sexual strategy. Look up strategy in the dictionary and the definition begins with a plan [...]. I will come back to this point.
Although TRP preaches philosophies of achieving your potential, how to spin plates, etcetera, we have a large disdain toward scripted interactions. Do I condone scripted lines? Absolutely not. Although, I do believe some scripted work may be necessary within an interaction.
Let me explain: When I started gaming, I relied on Mystery Method. For those unfamiliar, approach to close is scripted. Every word coming out of your mouth has been memorized. Every situation has a line or a method of escalation. There is little room for growth until you internalize the scripts laid out for you. Until you understand the method, you do not change the scripts.
After a hiatus, I returned to gaming. Through TRP and a few different sources, I understood congruence between myself and game. Congruence is a major philosophy preached by TRP and I agree wholeheartedly with it. To a novice in game or someone like myself - alternating from script work to a completely non-scripted interaction - I feel there is a need for a practical side of game.
To return to my first line: a plan. The philosophies preached within TRP allow one to start analyzing their gaming patterns. Yet, we can be thrown for a loop (especially concerning some atomic bomb shit tests) where we have no prior experience. In this case, and this case only, I see the need of a script. The script may simply be something along the lines of be nonreactive, maintain frame, or it may in-fact be a line to use.
There is a need for scripted game when faced with an unfamiliar situation.
Once the situation has been experienced, it should take very little time to understand the dynamic of when and how to use the line. Once the dynamic is understood, you should quickly find a method congruent within your own style of game for the next time the situation comes up.
I feel this is a practical approach to TRP philosophies and strategies of game - unfamiliar situation requires a script, understand the why and how of the script, find a method congruent with yourself for the next time the situation presents itself.
