No physician will give you a vasectomy (including vas occlusion) if you are planning on wanting it reversed in the future. Vasectomies are never given as temporary birth control.

I wouldn't do a vasectomy... because what if I want little ones in the future.

I honestly think it sucks balls that its 2013 and we're just not there yet as far as male options for birth control are concerned.

I wonder what will happen when we do get there. Think about a world where every man can control 100% whether he fathers or child or not.... and he's able to do it without relying on putting a rubber blockage on pleasure (condom).

That would be an amazing world.

Birth rates would probably fall off of a cliff overnight. Women who actually want to be mothers would have to change their whole sexual strategy and approach to relationships.

It would be interesting to say the least. Hopefully the game changer comes sooner rather than later.

My longstanding recommendation is to put sperm on ice and then get snipped. No chance of being sent into indentured servitude by way of an "oops pregnancy" or "accidentally on purpose", and you can still have kids down the road when, and only when, you are ready. If RISUG ever becomes a reality that would be the best option as it would obviate the need to put sperm on ice. One injection and you're set for about 10 years.

I got a vasectomy 2 years ago. They made sure I knew that if I wanted it reversed it would cost a lot and was not a guarantee. I even had to sign a form stating that I understood what I was doing. I personally did it because I didn't want anymore kids, but I will still use a condom with someone I don't know well enough to know I'm safe. A vasectomy won't stop STDs. I'm not saying you are like this, but I've met plenty of people who think once they get a vasectomy they no longer need to bother with condoms. If you don't want kids of your own then I say go for it. If you are not sure then just stick with condoms for now. It's a big move to make and it's an even bigger move to reverse.

Edit: Also wanted to throw in that I was married at the time and my wife had to sign the form as well.

I'm not sure I'd call it a strategy, more like a tactic that supports the strategy "control your own destiny wrt reproduction". And a wise one it is - whether for LTR, STR, or casual sex. Just remember it won't stop disease.

An allied tactic is "Sunday Morning Game". If you're 30 - 45, pretend to want babies / step kids, and become a serial polygamist.

As a guy who is 100% sure that he doesn't want kids having a vasectomy is one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I'm in complete control of my life regarding reproduction now. No need to worry about condoms breaking, or girlfriends sabotaging condoms/lying about being on birth control.

The hardest part was finding a doctor who would perform the operation on a young guy who hadn't had kids yet.

I have been thinking about vasectomy for a few months now, and been thinking about freezing my sperm for when i want children, but that's where i hit a wall, is it the same physically a child from normal sperm that one born from frozen one? How much sperm should i store? maybe i could want more than 1 or 2 children in the future.

Meanwhile i will keep using those wonderful prophylactics.

How has nobody mentioned the possible decrease in female desire, even when the change isn't explicitly known? I've read at least 2 or 3 blogs/articles about women knowing that something is off with a guy who had the snip. I remember one being from Athol Kay's blog:

SEX IS MASSIVELY DIFFERENT with a man who has had a vasectomy and I would never be in a long term relationship with anyone with one for that simple reason.

Now, I’m in my 40′s and in the last 5 years have dated several men who had vasectomies and had not told me. I could tell right away.

If you are thinking about the reversibility of a vasectomy bank sperm.

Banking sperm will be cheaper then the reversal. Then after the kid you need to get another vasectomy.

First, this "vas occlusion" stuff your talking about is still experimental and isn't being performed yet.

second, vasectomies are a gambit.

the risk, never having kids.

the gain, knowing you will never have kids unless you absolutely want to.
