Im gunna rant for a minute.

Considering the demographics of reddit and this sub the topic of video games repeatedly comes up. Lets get something straight. Playing video games and being a top tier man do not mix. You do not become your best self, the alpha you by playing video games.

Gaming is an escapist activity damaging for a young man who spends more than a nominal amount of time on them socially. Gaming gives the mind a false sense of accomplishment. I reached this level, hit this score, unlocked this weapon!! Bullshit, Ive sat in a chair staring at a screen for an hour of my life which I will never ever get back. Goodbye hour spent at the gym, reading that book, planning that trip, doing any number of things which would have made me into a better man I was an hour ago. Nope, Id rather smash some buttons.

"But the idea that gaming is for children is just cultural indoctrination which will change as gamers age. No one says poker or chesss are for children!"

Who said an old gamer is mature, or an alpha man? Shit, how many women, and im not talking the half retarted gamer chicks, but women, would look at a man sitting in a chair holding a controller with anything but disdain? Not many fellas, not many at all.

Lets get something else straight. Poker. Five men, or women, sitting around a table competiting against one another, holding frame, posturing, and deciepting one another. Poker and chess are games built around real world applicaple skills, there is no comparison to such in the gaming world. Simply staring another man down has one me hands in poker while no video game requires the holding of frame. And dont kid yourselves, you know how video games are played.

Yeah, I used to game. Id sit and pew pew. Giving up gaming, which I did before I found trp, was the best damn decision Ive ever made.

So, if you think telling a woman who's trying to get you to get your fat ass off the couch you can do whatever you want because you're the man is alpha you've missed the point. Yes, you can do what you want, but no one has to respect you for doing what you want. Including her.

Some of you may not agree, but if I am having a convo with another man and he starts talking about video gamse, I immediately loose respect for him. My first thought is, "what is he running from?" And I know Im not alone. So next time you want to press some buttons, ask yourself what you're avoiding or ignoring and go do that instead. Respect is earned.

If you want to be the man, you'll put down the controller, turn off the tv, and go live life.

Now Ill put my money where my mouth is.
