TL/DR: this moment is where you need to start; no where else.
I've seen people say, "do MMA or do this because it's hard to be afraid to approach a girl, it's hard to be upset at the red pill, because getting choked out, or lifting this weight is much worse or harder."
This approach to life is fundamentally flawed. In fact, any approach in which you're not living with a well grounded, understanding of your thought process and mind is flawed. When what needs to be done is not compare the wholesomeness, the challenge, the amount of emotion to other things at all. It is actually to have no reaction whatsoever to such trivial things.
ALL WE NEED TO DO IS ACCEPT EVERY SINGLE EVENT THAT TAKES PLACE FOR WHAT IT IS; SECONDS PASSING IN A FINITE SPACE OF EXISTENCE.
Things only gain momentum or magnitude when you assign a momentum or magnitude to them. If I were to ask you to touch a piece of paper, you'd probably say, "no problem." If I were to ask many to hold a non poisonous spider in their hand, many may decline or do so with fear. Why then did those same people have no problem at all touching the paper and only some had no problem touching both? In all reality, it is us who are selfish, self centered, and egotistical. And what this has done; left a paradigm for our mind to follow. Now the most simple things become difficult. Now the things which deserve no value assigned to them, have great magnitude.
Let's break down things to a very simple level:
You have a man which looks like X.
The man does this and this and has a career doing Y.
He smells of scent Z. His size shirt is C.
When he walks, he does so like most other men that are capable, one foot in front of the other. When he communicates, he does so in some standard, usually using his mouth and words of the language least foreign to him.
And when he walks up to a girl, so many things have gone through his mind. All of these things to protect and safeguard an ego he has created. These things have been used in a comparative sense, and they have been used to assign value to this person. These thoughts have continued to give more and more value to this intangible thought process. Now you're at a point where the momentum is so great, G force acts and causes his body to change direction away from said objective. Yet, there is no G force, there is no momentum. It is all mental. (This applies to keeping frame as well and pretty much any idea in which you allow your thoughts to prevent you from completing something, not just cold approaching women.)
What we just saw... A man psyching himself out. He put too much effort into an intangible aspect of life; his thoughts. He allowed his thoughts to conquer him, he has become his own worst enemy. It's the same reason you fail to achieve goals, you procrastinate, and you miss out on the things you desire in life. This thinking actually cripples its victim. Leaving them helpless. Worse, they don't understand it, they do not see a means to control it.
The cause is simple. The man does not realize he is only putting one foot in front of the other. The man does not realize he is only opening his mouth to speak. His mind does not realize his nervous system is automatically causing his lungs to fill with air.
What he sees is not what it is actually happening, rather what has lead him to this point, what has lead him to make a bigger than necessary deal of such a simple action. He is everywhere, but there. He is in the future, worrying about rejection, and in the past, worrying about his appearance. He is everything but simply walking.
And how can one enjoy the time spent at the gym if the whole purpose of the gym is to gain something from it? To expect something to happen each time he leaves the gym? How can one enjoy the approach of women, if ones only purpose is to gain pussy from it? How can one enjoy his life if he spends all the time thinking of the rewards, rather than enjoying the time spent earning the reward?
One cannot. Because the instance his reward has been granted, another second approaches. Instantaneously, in that next second, his desire for more reward will surface. Thus, it is not the pinnacle of success that we enjoy, it is the road to the pinnacle, OR, nothing but a few random seconds when those pinnacles are met, in the finite time we spend on earth. Which sounds more sustainable and appealing? The pinnacle itself holds no real value, in almost every case, it is only a tangible object that we may or may not own. It is actually the road spent where we receive the reward. Where we learn the most, and are able to enjoy the most. Where we have worked towards something, made ourselves a warrior of pursuit who would stop at nothing. This is where real character is built. The end of whatever it is we were pursuing? It's just that, the end. What were left with is knowledge and proof. You pat yourself on the back and start on something again, something new.
What I am speaking about is living in the moment. One foot in front of the other, one breath after another. And when you pick your shirt off the ground, that is all you're doing... picking your shirt up. Any thoughts that enter your mind whilst doing so are actually damaging, even if they're positive. Because they are NOT the task at hand, and thus, do not belong in your thoughts. They are nothing more than a distraction to remove you from reality. Yet, you are in control of your reality, and your perception of it. And when you tie your shoes to your feet, that is all you're doing; one loop, another loop, and a knot. You're not tying your shoes so that you may play basketball, you're just tying your shoes.
And when you walk up to a girl, that is all you're doing... It is you who has allowed the negative and positive thoughts to take control of your mind. It is you that chose to walk away from a career path or towards it. It is not difficult to sit and study; it is you who has allowed it to become difficult.
Everything in life is easy, it is you who allows it to become hard. Right now, my fingers are pressing keys, this is easy. Nothing is hard to do, it is only you who makes it this way by constantly living everywhere except where you are. Cheers; now walk in mindfulness.
