Summary: what is hamstering and how to understand it easier.

This word has been a nuisance for me for a while now. I've been reading through BP examples, Frs and other TRP posts. It's easy to recognize it, and see it working. But still, it felt like something not in my full control.

The glossary uses “cognitive dissonance” to define it. Unfortunately, cognitive dissonance is not the easiest concept to get at the first reading. It takes a while. I'm hoping to get an easier definition for that soon.

So it took me a while to really understand hamstering. Until a few days ago, when it came to me, just like that:

Hamstering is when you lie to yourself to make yourself feel better. (… about something)

I have it in first person because it feels easier to grasp this way. It makes it easier for me. See how you guys like it.

Lessons learned: Tl;dr: Hamstering is when a HB lies to herself to make herself feel better.
