Marc "Animal" MacYoung is the real deal. All of his writings are highly recommended.

MRA brothers should definitely dig up his rape related articles.

haha yeah seriously. Someone randomly linked to a different article on there in another thread, and I got sucked in and eventually found this post.

There are very few alphas in police work. Most of them are betas trying to overcome it with a badge. Thats why there are so many stories of cops shooting the poodle and firing wild shots and grouping in packs of 40 to take down a single unarmed suspect. And cops arguing with and having no mercy and taking every damn thing personally. I wish anyone trying to teach police to be alphas good luck.

I can agree with that. I don't know if you read the article, but it definitely talks about how alphas are calm and collected even in situations that would stress out others, because they are confident that they can handle whatever is coming their way. Betas believe that they have to be the loudest, or the toughest to get their way. This is why a beta in leadership can stress out an entire department, or make for horrible situations with the police.

This paragraph nails it:

We thought about calling this section "Alphas are calm in the face of adversity" but the simple fact is, the reason they are calm is that they know they can handle it. They have the resources.

To be more specific, they have diversified.

It is not uncommon for betas to believe in simplistic solutions. In other words they commonly believe that if they become the 'best' at something they feel everything else will fall into line (e.g. the idea that becoming the best fighter will make them an alpha). Another common failing among betas is the belief that they are 'good enough' (i.e. because I'm good enough I don't have to try to improve myself). Because of this when a situation occurs that taxes their limited resources they tend to overreact.

I found this article on a website that promotes self defense by being aware of dangerous situations and avoiding them instead of just flying to arms and getting yourself shot over a wallet.

I thought that it was very interesting because I know a lot of guys who consider themselves 'alpha', but who are really just beta's trying to act alpha by being overly macho and aggressive. The post certainly makes a lot of sense and relates very well to the real world and more situations than just picking up girls, but also the office, the bar, and just being out and about or interacting with a group of friends or a group of strangers.

Anyway, share your thoughts after you give it a read. Alpha doesn't mean having the loudest mouth in the room, or being the biggest douchebag. It's about understanding group dynamics and steering them in a way that is beneficial to everyone.

Girls definitely pick up on this. They can tell if the people around you trust you and believe in you, or if everyone else is just rolling their eyes behind your back and thinks you're just an arrogant asshole.

Great post. Sometimes it feels like 14 yo kids have taken over this SR so this is a welcome submission.

This article is very good at diffusing conflict situations.

I liked the "saving face" part. My past had me more likely to watch power struggles in the monetary sense than physical, but the rules are the same. When there is a dispute between two parties involving a lot of money and neither side is unilaterally to blame you need to find "saving face" options so that the two parties can get out without things going to war of some kind. Sometimes small gestures can translate to a big impact.

The best war is the one you don't need to fight.

Alphas prefer team play or cooperation.

Betas tend to go to war easily.

Good example, and good points. I have definitely talked down a few fist fights before, ended up hearing their side of things and making new friends. There is often more to be gained from diffusing a situation than from escalating one, that's for sure.

Ok, since so many members here seem hell-bent to distort the term "alpha" into meaning "leader", then fuck it, fine. Let's change alpha into meaning leader from now on so you can finally shut up.

Now, do you have any suggestion for which word we should use for "top sexually attractive man" since we can't use "alpha man" anymore?

[–]140Watts-2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, totally agree. In the context of this sub, alpha means "top sexually attractive man".
