Always better out there, maybe, but attainable by you?

It's not about finding the "best" girl. It's about finding the girl who compliments your life (i.e. adds happiness).

Then again, if it makes you happiest to just have multiple girlfriends, then do that.

Also, there's only so much time in a day and so much effort you can expend, and looking for better dips significantly into both.

You may want to eventually spend more time focusing on other things, goals, hobbies etc, and have someone who adds enough happiness and value to your life that there's a net loss looking for better.

Until there isn't.

Man, firstly, this is a shitty post. Ought to get deleted. But, let me answer your question.

We, red pill men, are realists. We are not looking for an unicorn, we are looking for a good horse. You might want the best horse possible, but until you have it you will have to sow by yourself and pull the carriage by yourself. Also, you are getting any younger. I am not saying that you should settle down as soon as fast as possible. But that you should keep in mind that we, as men, also have a wall to hit. Yeah, we will hit after 50, but hit it we will none the less.

Don't get me wrong. We will not become disgusting old bulls like women do, but quality women will be less inclined to marry you if you are over 50. Sure, you might have game, good value, money, be an alpha motherfucker, but there is a younger version of yourself lurking around. Women might fuck you, but they won't commit. A good provider is one who can provide in the future, not only now. And you need provider qualities for a good LTR.

That is, if you want to have a family, see your kids grow, meet your grandkids... If you want to sleep around, you can do that until your eyes go blind from viagra. Even after that.

Just did.

This is actually called the marriage problem, and the solution is really simple.

Assuming that you date a lot of girls (which is always a good idea), and that you want nothing but the best, then your winning move is as follows:

  • Reject the first 36.8% of the girls you date however good you think they are, but in mind who you feel is the best of them (let's call her Katie).
  • Then, after the first 36.8%, if you meet someone who's better than Katie, then she's the one you want and settle with.

This maximizes your probability of selecting the best girl out of the potential pool of girls out there. For example, let's say that you're attractive, well-employed, have no problems getting a date. Then, if you're potentially getting 150 dates over a couple of years, you start settling after the 55th girl.

That doesn't make sense in this context. That only works if you have a list of all girls you'll ever date and you're working your way down through it.

Not quite. It works, if you have an estimate of the total number of girls you'll ever date (and this needs to be large). Also, you're not working your way "down" as much as meeting them in random order.

Think of it this way: there are 100 girls you want to date in a year, you date them in random order, and one of them is the best. The probability that the best girl is the first one you meet is 1/100. So, probabilistically it makes sense not to settle for the first girl and reject her.

On the other hand, if you reject the first 90 girls, then you've probably already rejected the best one. So it's a question of knowing when to stop (i.e, how many girls to reject), and a simple application of conditional probability gives you the answer.

[–]ButterMyBiscuit0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's completely impractical, as you still have no way of realistically estimating how many girls you'll date.

[–]throwaway16430 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I disagree. If you have a rough idea of how many girls you pull a year, you can easily extrapolate over your dating window to get a good estimate.

In fact, personally I think this strategy completely explains "alpha fucks beta bucks".

Let's say women enter the marriage market at 18 and their biological window closes at about 45 when menopause starts becoming an issue. That gives a time period of 27 years in the market. 36.7 percent of 27 is 10 years. So, probabilistically their best strategy is to sample the market and settle after 18 + 10=28 years.

The average age for women to get married in the US? 27 years.

Think it's a co-incidence?

[–]ButterMyBiscuit1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You broke that down over age/time instead of number of dating partners, which is a totally different animal.

Or why settle down at all? Why is the quality of the woman your only context in the question? What have you to gain from any amount of settling down? Is your life going to get that outrageously better simply because you found the "one" that you should settle down with?

Chris Rock said it best in Bring the Pain... ~Every man has a choice to make.... commitment, or new pussy.~ He goes on to say that eventually a decision has to be made, and that it's up to the man.
