What gets me is that she had the haughtiness to insert 'oncology' before nurse, even though it doesn't mean a damn thing. She is trying to imply that somehow she has attained a level of specialized knowledge that no other nurses obtain. Post-cancer, I briefly saw an oncology department for follow-up. There was the oncologist (MD), and a flotilla of LPNs and RNs surrounding him in the offices. They did the exact same duties that an RN/LPN do in an old-age home or a GP's office; checking vitals and paperwork. It required no specialized, advanced nursing degrees to work in that office, because they were not oncologists, just nurses. If she had said ICU nurse, I might have had a little more admiration for her title due to the level of quick-wittedness required in an ICU; but prefacing her title with 'oncology' is no more impressive than inserting pediatric or adult-care before it.
