Hi all,
I would like your advice on a recurring relationship issue.
Right now I am studying for a degree while also working full-time. My SO happens to be a professional in the field I'm studying so I rely on him a lot for HW questions. My school courses have a very reliable schedule, and homework is always due Wednesday of every week.
The problem arises whenever I have a deadline coming up. Recently I went over to SO's place for a few days so I could ask him for help. I had homework due Wednesday and I was really behind. I wasn't sure if I could finish on time. Naturally, I was quite stressed.
My SO likes to play games. Several times a week he plays with online friends. He gets quite loud when this happens. When he gets loud I have difficulty concentrating.
2 hours before the homework is due. He comes over and asks if he can play with an online friend. At this point I'm still not done with homework. I have one problem left and it's a tricky one; he knows this.
I tell him I'd rather he not play with the friend at this moment. I'm pretty stressed out at this point. He asks again if we can compromise. I don't know what to say so I say sure. He goes online and starts chatting, and it bothers me.
I later asked him why he wanted to compromise, while knowing I was under a deadline. He said he had already been staying quiet for the past few days. He was antsy and wanted to play with his online friend.
My question: is it unreasonable for me to want him to stay quiet for the few days while I am over? And not have to deal with his gaming on top of my deadline? Note, I usually only come over once a week. This one time I came over for a few days because I really needed his help. So realistically, he can game any other time during the week.
Thanks in advance.
