I posted this to FDS but was referred over here so re-posting to hopefully get some advice from you awesome ladies :) I have so much respect for all of you who have overcome what I'm trying to overcome right now and welcome any input you may have.

Hi, everyone! I've been reading here for a while and this sub has opened my eyes in a way I cannot even describe. I have struggled with extremely low self-esteem for basically my entire life. My mom abandoned me when I was about 11 and I was raised by a single dad who was unsupportive and usually not even there since he was always away on business. I feel like I mostly raised myself and did not have anyone guiding me or teaching me anything about relationships and what is ok and what is not ok.

I was a classic girl who slept around because I felt I had nothing to offer anyone except my body. I believed strongly that I was empowered and making the choices I wanted to make as an independent woman but I was always crushed when I would get ghosted or passed over for someone that was actually girlfriend material. I got married very young to a man that I thought was amazing because he didn't yell at me or insult me. I can see now that he was not a good husband at all and I pretty much married the first person who would have me. After we got divorced I quickly got sucked into a relationship with an abuser who would get drunk and call me a whore and coerce me into sex that made me feel violated. I have finally broken free of all this and I have cried so many tears for the young woman who thought she deserved this awful behavior. I don't know how I ever allowed myself to be subjected to such cruelty.

My question now is: how can I forgive myself for letting these things happen to me? I have done a lot of work and therapy this year as well as gone back to college and I am starting to believe that I really have a lot to offer the world. But I just can't stop feeling ashamed and worthless about my past and how I let these horrible people take advantage of me and hurt me. It seems so obvious to me now that I was being mistreated and it makes me feel like I must not be an intelligent person to have not understood this. I am starting to recognize my value but I am still struggling to think that I could ever really be high-value. When I see posts in here of women talking about their amazing husbands and all they do for them I still think, I can't expect that. That's not for girls like me. I am trying to better myself by continuing my education so I can be independent and focusing on making new female friends to give me a full, happy life. But inside I still wonder if I will really ever be good enough to be a HVW that deserves a HVM.

Has anyone in here gone through this and what did it take for you to heal and believe that you are good enough?
