I haven't read the others' replies yet, but here goes ( I am not a computer guy)

01: i am good

10: I deserve

0101: Anything that is negative is bad

1010101: anything negative against me is bad 010101010101 : Nothing is not for me

therefore, I am not wrong, I am right, I feel therefore I am, I am therefore I am right

Anything I feel right now is the way the universe is

Anything I say to contradict this is wrong

Anything that contradicts how I feel that has happened or can happen is wrong

wrong is bad bad is wrong

therefore I can only do good because I am good because I need to feel good because good because vagina.

A way to think about the hamster is that first, the person's emotion lead them to a conclusion, and then, the person uses "logic" to justify it. Everyone does it, but women are notorious at this.

Trying to use logic against this emotional logic doesn't work, because it is essentially "arguing", which only increases the emotions, and empowers the emotional logic. Changing someone by talking is almost impossible because words can't beat emotions.

This is why I always say "Hamsters eat logic and shit more hamsters".

Trying to change your wife's behavior by talking to her is engaging her hamster. Changing behavior is freaking hard on yourself, even if you want to.

What works instead is you change yourself and your own actions, and with this, change the dynamics. Only then you make her hamster work for you, as her emotions become aligned with your actions (as opposed to her emotions oppose your words).

we all have hamsters. mine just happens to run on whey and creatine .it shits out awesome ideas, unstoppable energy and does not give a fuck.

womens hamsters run on iced tea, cosmo magazine and buzzfeed articles and 9gag.

cmon guys! the hamster is hypothetical! its a figure of speech for stupid behavior. you cannot find a box big enough for all the idiotic things in womens brains! we cant debate this like a stoic phrase, not even a haiku.

The Rationalization Hamster, to me...broken down to it's simplest form would go like this:

I get jabbed by something sharp, I retract arm because "ouch". No rationalization needed.
I am sick and need medicine. I need to get jabbed by something sharp. I'm going to go against basic logic and get jabbed to get better: basic rationalization.

The human animal realizes early on it's going to have to go against it's basic biological instincts constantly. When this rationalization get's applied to something as complex as emotions , wants , desires, needs, and it spins into overtime either fruitlessly or to manufacture a desired outcome disguising our actual motivations (whether we are self-aware of them or are a victim of our own desires)... we get the R.H. we all talk about.

It's actually a part of how we function, and applied correctly helps. So really we all refer to the negative rationalization we do with hamstering. Because the hamster implies spinning a wheel , fruitlessly or to our own detriment.

An obvious BAD rationalization hamster would be religious based violence committed by non-sociopathic people, who in absence of their beliefs, would not condone or commit such violence. Their inner RH spins them into such a frenzy that not only could they harm other people but themselves. In order to get around this they need to rationalize their behavior. In this case to their own and other's detriment.

I think , as complex animals with a huge brain, can fear emotional pain on a greater extend just as keenly or moreso than the physical. Guilt from taking responsibility for actions that hurt others can be a great pain, so we rationalize it as justified or necessary.

eg : (Feel free to switch the sexes and objects) He forgot to buy me flowers on our "meeting" anniversary. So I'm going to give him the cold shoulder to punish him for the pain he brought to me. This way , next year, he wont forget. Rationalizing away all of the pain she'll bring onto her man by confusion and social shunning as an act to ensure a resource. This behavior worked with her father as an adult. This is a justifying flavor of a r.h.

She dumped me. I normally feel emotionally blasted by this. But I spin my emotional hamster into overdrive. Instead of it being the reality that I was an alcoholic, or I did the wrong things in the relationship, it was because she was a "crazy bitch". Or because her friends poisoned her ear. I get to divest myself of personal responsibility and the pain gets mitigated. It's now someone elses fault and not my own. This alleviates the pain, but you hamstring your efforts to improve as a person setting yourself up for future failure.
