I've listened to the 9 hours version of 48 laws 5 times, and once to the 23 hours version. As well as listened to the '50th law' 4 times, and I can confidently say that it was these books (along with Mastery, Robert Greene) which dragged me out of depression.
The main (and only) cause for my depression was anxiety.
Fear.
The 50th law specially is crucial to understanding that fear used to serve a very useful purpose, but now it mostly manifests itself in the form of anxiety.
Worrying about losing your job, your business going to hell, losing money, your car breaking down, that girl leaving you, etc.
While I doubt anyone without some strange wirings in their brain can be entirely fearless - it's a very good idea to understand what fear really is, and how in the modern world you will likely only encounter a few times where it would actually truly help you.
The 50th law also helped to re-wire my brain to accept risks, and accept that shit will hit the fan once in a while, and to simply continue on.
You can either let fear paralize you into the point of inaction, or you can push through it - regardless of how scared, or anxious you are - and have a a far better chance of success than if you were to do nothing.
